Re: manual shifter getting stuck
This why so many old 3 speeds ended up with floor shift conversions. The original design wasn't all that bulletproof to begin with and over time as the parts wear they are prone to getting stuck. This older link may help if you decide to try and rebuild the linkage and need bushings, but it's usually the components in the shift mechanism on the column that wear out:

Re: manual shifter getting stuck
I had a '68 Chevy Biscayne that I got with 26,000 original miles. It had 3-on-the-tree. I kept the linkage greased regularly. Never had a problem - shifted like glass...

Re: manual shifter getting stuck
I always rebuild the linkage with new bushings and never have any issues.
Classic Parts sells everything you need for well under 20 bucks.

Re: manual shifter getting stuck
That is theft prevention.
Well just having a 3 on the tree is good, since most people can't/never drove one. My truck was like that for years, and only I could drive it.
