Re: posi front axle?

I've only heard of one other having it so I would think it's not common. My Ford F150 has front and rear limited slips and it's pretty uncommon in Fords too. Looks like it could be fixed up. Oh and the plow could of maybe been dealer added.

Re: posi front axle?

If you aren't using some parts from it, I might be interested in what is left, and you aren't too far from me. Let me know.

Hi, I know this is an old post but do you still have the plow setup and if so do you want to sell it?

Thanks,

Re: posi front axle?

Not to put an old thread on life support, but a quick question on the front Positraction option (I think I know the answer);

Does this mean the standard 69-72 4WD Blazer front differential carrier is actually an open unit ..meaning only one of the front locking hubs (front left I assume) is operational and the other locking hub is just for looks and useless ?

If so, I guess the base model 4wd is actually just a "2WD", unless it came with the rear posi option, in which case it would be 3WD ..unless it also came with front posi option, making it a true "4WD"

And how do open front and rear diff. carriers behave in reverse, I assume the same as forward (same wheel spinning, only backward).

..guess I haven't expiremented enough.

Both hubs are functional. Both have shafts running to the differential. As long as both tires have traction then both tires get torque from the driveline. When one tire or the other hits a slick surface (or is lifted off the ground) then the open differential will drive that side. The purpose, of course, is to allow for speed variation between the wheels while driving on a surface with sufficient traction. In a turn the outside wheel travels a longer arc than the inside wheel so the differential allows the outside wheel to spin faster than the inside wheel. Unfortunately this also means in low-traction situations that it will push engine torque to whichever wheel has the least traction.

Yes, stock carrier is open, and the Posi units are a bit rare.
