i have a 72 blazer ive restored. new everything. since the day i bought it and drove it home its been all over the road. so i bought a rebuilt steering box, ball joints, 6 inch lift, everything to tryin make it steer good. the damn thing wonders all over the road. cant figure it out. i know it will never drive like a new truck but it should be this bad. i had a 1980 and it drove alot better then this thing. ive spent so much money on this thing and im ready to give up. i'd like to just put the body on a newer yukon or blazer frame suspension.. but i dont have the skills for that. any ideas on what could be wrong?

Could be the type of tires.

Have you had it aligned? I think if the toe is off it'll wander. Maybe a list of what's been replaced/done would be more informative than everything...

It sounds like you have bump steer. Did you install an extended drop pitman arm when you installed the 6" lift? If not, then more than likely that's the cause of your steering issues.

yup its been aligned, everything is new.. steering box is rebuilt, everything down from that is new. everything up from the steering box is old. leafs, bushings, you name it.

bump steer on a 6 inch lift? yup a dropped pitman arm. came with the skyjacker kit. all new leafs front and back. bushings, ball joints, steering box is rebuilt. old rag joint and steering column, all new everything joint that part of the suspension. maybe i need a crossover steering? rag joint? steering column? i dont know but im about 30 grand in and its driving me nuts

did you install a steering stabilizer(dampner)? i assume with a 6 inch lift your runnin big tires.

definetly need a stabilizer, or the camber is out of wack, my dodge did the same thing until i adjusted the camber

i have a stabilizer, its aligned.. maybe it could be the bump steer or tires. i bought some new toyo open countrys.. i hope that does the trick. if not i guess i will do cross over steering setup. if that dont work... i burn it.

Did you change the tie rods, you said everything but them. If you did is the frame cracked, or the steering box loose? I know you said you changed them but there is a chance that you didn't tighten it enough, or missed the crakced frame.

yes i changed the tie rods. i will check and see if the box is loose. where would the frame be cracked? by the steering box?

steering box is tight.. could it be the rag joint? i havent replaced that yet. i was going to do that when i get a new steering column

How wide are your tires? Did a shop do the alignement? If so, do you still have the spec sheet? Toe out will make it wander.

the tires that are on the blazer are interco, trxus,33-12.50-18R.. they are square looking. the top tread is flat across, not raised in the middle like most. yes a shop did the alignement. i dont have the spec sheet.

Those are pretty wide, if you are driving on roads with slight "ruts", it will cause it to wander.

I would take it to another shop and specifically ask them about "caster". Wandering is usually a caster issue.
Tell them that it wanders all over the place....they should have a solution.

Do you have a degree shim under the front springs?If so how many degree's is it?If you take to much caster out with say with a 8 degree shim it will wander or if you have toe out it will do the same.
