Re: What did you get done 5/2/10 allmost cinco de mayo edition
Saturday was spent at my sons District Livestock Judging contest. His team did well . We took care of a few things around the house today and I decided to buy a real welder . They were on sale so I picked up a Hobart Handler 187.I still have to buy a few things to get it set up but I did tinker with it today and it actually laid down a pretty nice bead with the flux wire it came with .

Re: What did you get done 5/2/10 allmost cinco de mayo edition
I got the parking lights and dash lights working on my 84 swb...I talked shop with the guy that sold me my ccsb and I showed him all the goodies I got for it already that still need to be installed...I really need to get the diesel swapped out of my 84 swb so I can install it in my ccsb...
on a side note, I went to lowes and bought a ton of cabinets for the kitchen reno that I'm going to be starting soon...I also bought the 4x6s and jacks to level the floor in the kitchen and the dining room...I have to do that before I even try to install the cabinets...I also have to swap out the kitchen window for a new double hung one and I have to put insulation in the exterior wall because the house was built in the 40s and there's no insulation there...lol...the cabinets we bought are unfinished oak, so I have to sand them down some and stain them...which means I got to buy a new sander...lol... |

The wife and I took our 17 year old daughter to take a tour of a local college. $$$$$$$$$$$ LOL
Cleaned and better organized my shed. Test fitted a new cover for the Heap. Also grabbed a random family photo Sunday afternoon as the Heap was taking a nap with it's new cover. The Chevelle was talking to the S-10 about the old days.

Re: What did you get done 5/2/10 allmost cinco de mayo edition
Stripped the new to me radiator core support to complete my 85' front clip swap with single headlights. Some sanding and a couple coats of primer and now it is ready for some satin black paint. Took a little drive yesterday and picked up a 76' grille with 454 badge for the next project. Spent some quality time with the wife and little girls. A good weekend

Yes, the plan is to rechrome. I have heard the same thing, but have also seen it done too. Even if you are able to slightly see where the bolts were, it will still look better than 14 ugly carriage bolts heads on the bumpers. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Re: What did you get done 5/2/10 allmost cinco de mayo edition
Got some new rubber for the freshly painted wheels, cleaned the beauty rings and center caps, tossed on a set of lowering shackles (coming off tonight, not gonna hack my bed for that), finally got my seat and headliner back from the trim shop and installed. Got all the smog junk off and welded up the stock manifolds. I got a bit scared after having everything soaked in penetrating oil, then using a torch to get nut off, then mig'ing the holes, no fires though.
Took the beast for a drive with my 7 year old, his first time "in the front seat", he was very excited. |

Good luck on all the fronts, Jeff. Sounds like you have your hands full.
My truck is still here at work. Nothing truck related, except I now have a pressure washer. They were on sale at Lowe's, and we have been getting ready to stain our fence. My wife thinks it is to clean the fence (done!) and the sidewalks, but I know better.

Re: What did you get done 5/2/10 allmost cinco de mayo edition
Saturday ran errands till my daughter came home from work. She and I spent some quality time together. We went out and test drove cars. She looked at a Camaro, Challenger, and an H3. The Hummer won the contest. Surprisingly the Challenger came in as her least favorite.
Sunday I worked all day in my back yard. It is coming together, but still needs lots of attention to be ready for Memorial weekend. Sunday afternoon my daughter asked to drive the 77. It has been sitting for a few months, so I charged the battery and took it for a short shake down. My daughter, wife and I went to visit family then out to dinner. They actually enjoyed the family cruise and suggested we do it more often.....Million dollar memories there.

Re: What did you get done 5/2/10 allmost cinco de mayo edition
I've had a receiver hitch sitting on a shelf behind my shop for years, and I have no idea where I got it at or what it came off of. So I tried it on Fred and it fits great. I had to move the exhaust tips out a touch, but it fits fine. If I raise the cross tube up about 2", and flip it over, then add a hinge to the license plate, I will be able to hide it all behind the bumper. So I'll tackle that another weekend.

Re: What did you get done 5/2/10 allmost cinco de mayo edition
I spent Saturday at the Pate Swapmeet in Fort Worth looking for parts for my '37 Chevy. I found a lot of 73-87 stuff, but none of the stuff I need for the coupe.
I attended the memorial at a dragstrip Sunday for a friend who died a few months ago. Some of you might know him or know of him. His name was Collin Casey. He loved racing his flathead powered '32 Ford Coupe at this particular track. They spread his ashes while going down the track from a '33 or '34 Ford Coupe powered by a blown flathead. It was to be his "final pass." Slonaker |

Removed my back bumper, replaced it with a rollpan, added a third brake light license frame, license plate lighting bolts, installed hidden tailgate latches and a hidden tailgate link assembly, and removed the chain assembly bolts and tabs.

By the way, if anyone wants a rear bumper I'd be glad to give it to ya. Otherwise, I'll be setting it out by the curb this weekend. Here's a pic of it:

I went to a car show in Snyder texas and tested out my newly redone rear axle. With the exception of some vacuum lines that decided to crack, all went well.

Can't make it this time. Too far for a single day run and Sunday being Mother's Day, well, you understand.

Re: What did you get done 5/2/10 allmost cinco de mayo edition
Ripped out the buckets in my 83 shorty I just bought. Was excited to see they were only held in with some cheap L brackets and hand full of tech screws. PO was obviously not worried about dieing in a crash. Got a stock bench seat stuck back in her and it is much more comfy now. I also cut the horrible exhaust pipes out from under the truck. Then I took off the side mirrors so I could trial run it without them for awhile. I am trying to decide if I could stand to not have mirrors on my truck.
