Electrical Issue- Ignition

Gents,

I am having some issues with my ignition on my 62. On the back there is a purple wire that continues to come loose somehow and it kills the whole truck. I pull the ignition out and press them all back together real tight and she fires right up. I currently have it just zip tied real tight....any other suggestions??

Thanks!

Re: Electrical Issue- Ignition

The most likely issue is the female terminal on the purple wire. I can't find a picture readily available showing the other side, but as indicated by the arrow below - there is a tang on the other side that is suppose to stick up and latch into the connector.

When they get old or have been handled too many times, the tang generally flattens out and will no longer hold in the plastic housing, or it breaks off. If it is just flattened out, you can usually pry it out to about a 15 degree angle (gently). When you reinsert it into the housing it will snap in place. If the tang is broken off, the only remedy is to replace the terminal.
