Super Stinkbug Panel

So I'm dropping my panel 4.5 in the front (2.5 spindles and 2 in springs) and 4 in the rear... got the front end done... with the rear stock height and oversize tires... it deserves a couple of pics in its Super Stinkbug Stance stage.

next are the 5 lug rear axles, Radir wheels with skinny ****es and the 4 inch drop springs in the back. But I'm going to do the axles, wheels and tires first, that way if I run out of time before the next show I'll take it like this as a goof.

but for now... enjoy the Super Stickbug Panel

Re: Super Stinkbug Panel

You win the biggest rake contest hands down.
Can't wait to see the final product, I really dig those Radirs.
I need to convert to 5 lug so I can run some period wheels.
Nice Panel, keep us posted.

In the late 60's-early 70's that might have been a popular setup. Some styles should be left in the past. Can't wait to see it finished, very nice looking panel.

Re: Super Stinkbug Panel

Ok, this is much better. Lowered 4.5 in the front (2.5 drop spindles, 2 coils) 4 in the rear (all coils, drop shocks and adjustable panhard bar). 5 lug conversion and disc brakes. Took 3 days. Had to torch off the old springs in the back as the retaining bolts were corroded badly. No way to get the air hammer on them with the old springs in... any opportunity to fire up the torch . Had to break one and nearly strip the other bolt to get them out. New ball joints, tie rods, A arm pivots, shocks, bushings, wheel bearings and brakes all the way around. Kustom (with a K for Krylon) gold paint on the rear drums.

Re: Super Stinkbug Panel

Man I like the Radirs with the pinners.
nice rake too.
Now I may have to ditch the Americans for Radirs.

I'd loose the painted drums for a less distracting color (like black)
It doesn't need any more flash.

eventually its going to get a gold leaf logo on the panel area, and gold metal flake steering wheel... hopefully the gold drums will tie it all together.

I'll live with them for a while to see if I like them gold or not.. if not.. easy enough to change.

Re: Super Stinkbug Panel

Your panel looks fantastic with the new stance. The wheels, tires and reduced height really enhance the color scheme and overall presentation. I always liked Radirs back in the 60's, but don't think I ever saw any in real life until the new version was released.

Re: Super Stinkbug Panel

OK, after 5.5 hours down and back to Santa Maria... something HAS to change.

Putting any sort of load (I put all the merchandise for my booth) in the back nearly bottoms out the rear suspension to the bumps stops. On any sort of bump at freeway speed its bottoming out. It now rides like crap.

Will try putting the old shocks back on.. I've heard the Doetsch Nitro Slammer drop shocks are pretty stiff... but this is silly. The old ones may be a little softer. That might help... I hope

but I think the only way to go is air bags or Shockwaves for putting any sort of load in the back.

Re: Super Stinkbug Panel

Got any pictures to show what you've done with the inside? I'm still trying to figure out what to do with mine when I get to that point.
