Diesel info. Book?

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A GOOD BOOK ON DIESELS? PARTICULARY THE 6.2 DIESELS THAT CAME IN SOME OF THESE TRUCKS. I JUST BOUGHT A 84 MILITARY 3/4 TON BLAZER WITH A 6.2 IN IT. IT'S VERY LOW MILES, SO I'M GONNA TRY IT. I'VE NEVER WORKED ON DIESELS AT ALL (THE ONLY DIESEL I'VE EVER OWNED IS A 3 CYL. 44 HORSE IN MY JOHN DEERE TRACTOR). I'VE REBUILT PLENTY OF SMALL BLOCKS & MORE THAN A FEW BIG BLOCK CHEVYS, SO I HAVE A PRETTY GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THEY WORK, & WHAT GOES ON INSIDE THEM, BUT I'M A COMPLETE NEWBEE WITH DIESELS. WHAT I WOULD LIKE IS RECOMMENDATIONS ON A GOOD BOOK ON THE BASIC OPERATION OF THEM. I NEED TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THEM SO I CAN GET A PICTURE IN MY MIND OF WHAT ALL THE INTERNALS DO, & HOW THEY WORK IN CONCERT WITH EACH OTHER. THANKS JOHN

Re: Diesel info. Book?

There is a haynes manual that covers the 6.2 pretty good. The book also covers the 350 diesel and the ford diesel too. It pretty much taught me what I needed to know when I started learning about my diesel burb. Also the diesel place or diesel page (can't remember exactly right now) sells a couple books for about $20 a piece) that covers the 6.2 and 6.5 pretty well too.

Re: Diesel info. Book?

THANKS.. I'VE GOT A CHILTONS SERVICE MANUAL FOR AN 86 & I THINK THEY ARE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME. (86 COMPARED TO 84, NOT HAYNES VERSUS CHILTONS) I'LL TRY SOME OF THE ONLINE BOOKSTORES TO TRY & FIND SOME OF THE BOOKS YOU MENTIONED. I'D REALLY LIKE TO FIND A G.M. MILTARY ASSY. FOR THE M1009 CUUV AS I THINK IT WOULD SUPPLY SOME PERTANANT INFO. ON THESE VEHICALS & I WOULD BE WILLING TO PART WITH SOME DECENT CASH FOR ONE. ANYBODY OUT THERE GOT ONE??. JOHN

Re: Diesel info. Book?

The Haynes Manual I'm referring to deals with just the engines and nothing else. I also stumbled across a manual a friend of mine gave me to copy that is for servicing chevy diesels. I'll look at it tonight and see what info it has and let you know.`

Re: Diesel info. Book?

How about a good, thorough, free manual.

I also just bought a 85 Military Blazer. Head over to steelsoldiers.com & look in the resources section. To them, your Blazer is a CUCV M1009. There are a few other board members from here over there too. This is my first diesel too.

They have the complete manuals for everything from the Lube & Operator's Mauals to the overhaul manuals, including one dedicated just to the 6.2L diesel.

The military manuals really help when it comes to the 24v starting system & oddities like the blackout lights.

Re: Diesel info. Book?

I JUST BOUGHT A REPAIR & SERVICE MANUAL ON EBAY YESTERDAY (I HAVEN'T GOT IT YET) FOR $5 + $2.75 SHIPPING. IT CONTAINS ALL OF THE M SERIES OF MILITARY VEHICALS & ABOUT 9 OR TEN OTHERS. I WAS JUST ABOUT TO BID ON A HARDCOVER SERVICE MANUAL & A HARDCOVER LUBE ORDER LIST (ALMOST $40) WHEN I FOUND THIS ONE ON CD. IT WAS Item number: 230394012436 . CHECK IT OUT. SEEMED LIKE A REAL BARGAIN. JOHN HERE'S THE DESRIPTION. I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS SELLER, BUT I THOUGHT IT MIGHT COME IN HANDY.. FOR ME ANYWAY. This CD contains more manuals for the CUCV and the new Generations of CUCV than any other that is offered on Ebay.

Nine manuals for the Chevrolet Chevy CUCV Series military trucks

Nine manuals for extra maintenance and repair on accessories.

Nine reports showing updates and modification to make your Blazer or Pickup more useful.

Twenty two manuals for the newest generation of military trucks, the CUCV Series 2001 to 2006 year models
