Re: Stock Pontiac 336?
Weird... I tend to be skeptical but I suppose it's possible but why? The description is very detailed, maybe the dude knows his stuff or it's like the old
'vette motor claim (as in 1/2 of all old trucks have owners who believe a 'vette motor was installed at some point in time). Have you e-mailed him?

Re: Stock Pontiac 336?
I believe the GMCs did have pontiac V8s in them back in the day. Not sure what year that changed though.

Re: Stock Pontiac 336?
GMC used engines built by Pontiac, Buick and on occasion Olds depending on the CI needed. The GMC engine was a true truck engine that was only used in the GMC truck line. While it may have been derived from car motors, which I had not heard before, they never made it into the car line.
I'd buy it at that price Last edited by dwcsr; 07-12-2010 at 06:31 PM. |

Re: Stock Pontiac 336?
Interesting, I never knew they put pontiac motors in GMC's. I dont know, sounds a little high to me, but being an arizona truck there is NO rust on it! Besides surface...

Re: Stock Pontiac 336?
GMC absolutely did use Pontiac engines in their V-8 light trucks 55-59. The 58-59 336 was a special displacement built only for GMC. It didn't go into any cars.
V-8 heavy trucks got Olds engines. The inline sixes were all home-grown GMC after about 1939 (they used car engines before then). Starting in 1960, the V-6 replaced the outsourced V-8s, but some of the inlines continued in production for a few more years. Chevy used Buick V-8 engines in their heavy trucks until the 348 went into production. Ray |

Re: Stock Pontiac 336?
I just got off of the phone with the guy. Its his bosses truck, but if you look at the flagstaff cl adds, they are selling a couple other nice trucks. I was looking at the add right before I came over to this site. funny to see a post about it. He did sound like he knew what he was talking about. He says that the 336 c.i. engine was only available in 58 and 59.

Re: Stock Pontiac 336?
years ago i remember having a "heated" discussion on the fact they didn't put pontiac motors in gmc trucks and soon found out i was wrong! plus having a hyrdro rans in them was also common.

Re: Stock Pontiac 336?
this one does have the hydromatic trans in it as well. Its a pretty clean and over all complete truck. Does not look as though it has ran in some time. My guess is that it would need one or possibly both cab corners replaced but i didn't poke around enough to know for sure.
