Re: Big tube ls headers

Would be really interested if they made one that fit 73-87 trucks. Have asked him a few times and no answers.

Re: Big tube ls headers

I'm probably going to end up trying these soon:
http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=899&catid=45

But if the fit is way off, I might have to wait on the 1 7/8 Thorley headers.

Wonder why they made them so small (1 5/8") to start with?

Yeah, the 98-02 style. They look like they might fit from the pics, except maybe the passenger side collector area.

It shouldn't be too long and I'll be ordering a set.

Re: Big tube ls headers

Jim The only problem w/ f body headers is one of the collectors doesnt exit straight or parallel w/ the other.I know guys have made them fit though w/ clearencing the frame etc.. Their just not for me. The reason they made the DT's in 1&5/8 is everone was using 5.3's & the 6.0 was in it's first or second year. The Ls platform caught on so fast nobody anticipated it. Within 2 years their building 454 small blocks who would of thought it!

Re: Big tube ls headers

I just got a set of used coated Flowtech F-body headers with 2 brand new 3" magnaflow mufflers for $250. Couldn't pass it up.

They are "only" 1 3/4" but at least I'll be able to get some sort of exhaust system going on this thing.

Hopefully they don't need modified too hard to make them fit.

Re: Big tube ls headers

Flowtech F-body LS1 headers fit on the passenger side beautifully.

Drivers side, won't work at all without either completely crushing 2 of the pipes, or relocating them, as I plan on doing... With ECE mounts, 1 pipe is all up in the control arm's face, and another pipe lays straight against the back of the front crossmember.

Kind of what I was expecting, but I think I can re-route a few of the pipes to make them work at least a few years while I wait for the perfect fitting header in 1 7/8 LT's.

If someone would take the passenger side Flowtech LS1 F-body header, and basically make the exact same thing, but for the drivers side, it would be an awesome fit.

Re: Big tube ls headers

Yeah, I'll get some eventually I work at night on the thing, and generally while I'm in GO! mode, the camera takes a back seat....

Once I get them all situated, I'll put up some pics, but overall, unless you get them very cheap like I did, I would highly recommend not attempting to use them.

Re: Big tube ls headers

I have been saying for a few years now that the Edelbrock 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 4th gen F-body headers fit. They have been in my 63 for at least 3 years now.

Re: Big tube ls headers

Every F-body header I've seen has the 1st pipe going straight down almost in-line with the 2nd exhaust port. That would probably work if your engine is siting back as far as you can possibly make it.

Re: Big tube ls headers

My motor is decently pushed back, but it doesn't seem any more than my buddies stock location on his 327.. Maybe I set it back further than I thought..

Re: Big tube ls headers

If mine was back 3" I'm fairly certain the flowtech f-body headers I tried would fit. They'd still be a pain because of how those exited though

Re: Big tube ls headers

I just bought some stainless kooks 1 7/8 3'collector 98-02 fbody headers. I haven't mocked them up but im wondering if they'll fit any better than these other headers you guys are using. Has anybody tried these?
