Rear Notch Kit
For the guys running airbags and who have the rear of their frames notched where did you get your notch kit? Was it a universal kit or was it specific for AD trucks?

Re: Rear Notch Kit
Big (step) notch or small c-notch? I got a c-notch from CPP, it was for the wrong frame so I made my own. Do not get one from them... If you are going that route, just find a thick-wall steel pipe, 4" or 6" use that and plate the inside too.
Big notches can be bought from www.***************** and they are universal, I don't know of any specifically for AD trucks.

Re: Rear Notch Kit
We, No Limir, have a rear boxing plate & C-notch kit for $71.00 they are made to fit your chassis (model specific) A regular C-notch will only get you another 2", then the top of rhe housing smacks the bed floor. If you go any lower than that, you have to raise the bed floor.

Re: Rear Notch Kit
since yor in the Bay area, give Gambino Kustoms in San Jose a call. He has a universal notch you can use. Basic monster notch, you can cut to fit how deep you want it.

Re: Rear Notch Kit
Yep, just make your own. A lot of people use 2x4 steel tube, I used flat steel plasma cut to the shape I wanted.

Re: Rear Notch Kit
How tall should I make it using 2x4 stock to lay running board and not really raise the bed like tylerdurben does to his trucks

Re: Rear Notch Kit
You need to know the largest tire you're planning on running and the size of the axle tube.
You also need to know the measurements of the frame when the board are on the ground.

Re: Rear Notch Kit
Making your own is very simple. I am going to start making mine this saturday although it is a little easier for me since I have a 35 ton press brake. If you need one bent up this weekend, hit me up then swing by my shop I will hook you up.
Thanks, Fabguy |

Re: Rear Notch Kit
Tchia65, If you have stock hieght spindles, when the truck is at ride hieght, the rockers should be in the 5" - 6" range. Dropped will be 4 1/2 " lower. tire size makes a difference.

Re: Rear Notch Kit
Pretty easy to do. I took some 2x4 - 3/16" square tubing and cut the ends on 35* angles. Take the rearend out and lay the truck on runningboards and mock it from there. I had to do mine twice cause I tried to measure while the truck was at ride height and made the notch to tall. Had to redo the top section and brig it down by 3 - 1/2". I even made a crossmember for my 4 link to attach to the frame using the same notch design

Re: Rear Notch Kit
I have one. I paid the extra $10 bucks to have it welded. I havn't glued it on yet. Nice quality and fast shipping. I think there's a pic of it in my '59 thread.

Re: Rear Notch Kit
Looking to getting the WS kit it gives me 7 1/2" of extra travel that should be enoughtto lay the running boards on the ground while running a 255/35/20 tire and puts my ford explorer rearend at 15 1/4" to the top of axle from the ground. Will I have clearence issues with the rear fenders when I lay it out with such a wide tire?

Re: Rear Notch Kit
I have the Welder Series step notch and also their 4 link. I am using the original frame and it gets me pretty much on the ground with 18" wheels.
I am very pleased with their products and the prices are very fair. The truck is sitting on a couple of 2x4's in the front right now so the floor board is riding up. |

Re: Rear Notch Kit
What size tires are you running on your 18's. Are you running a Ford 8.8" rear end?

Re: Rear Notch Kit
I dont think 7.5 is big enough. I dont remember how big mine is.
the frame is exactly 4" off the ground when the running boards lay. Like the flat section under the cab. but this much notch.... gets you like this laid out on a 27" tall tire... Im sure some of the guys here saw my truck at Dallas and can comfirm it lays hard on the ground. |
