Rear Leaf Question

Ok, no one in the 73-87 section knew this answer and I can't seem to find it anywhere doing a search, but anyone know if I am able to put 56" 3/4 ton rear leafs onto a 1/2 ton with 52" springs if I move the leaf bracket back to the other set of holes in the frame about 4" back?

I can't answer that question either, but I would begin by measuring the distance from the center bolt to BOTH eyes on both springs.

In theory you could do that but keep in mind it will change your wheel base which means it will change the location of your wheels in relation to the wheel well. I would only consider doing it if I took the difference and split in half then moved each leaf spring hanger that much. This way your wheel base would stay the same.

In actuality, the front half of the leaf is the same distance, from the axle to the front bushing. The 56" are longer from the axle to the rear bushing. I changed out 52" springs to 56" springs on my last 87 1/2 ton burb. I didn't move the perches, and it gave me a 4" lift because it arched them more. If you want to change them out, just move the rear perch back to the other set of holes. Just remember to use grade 8 bolts to attach it.

Aren't the springs wider? You should measure the width before you start the mod.
