Anyone know??? P/S questions
2 questions:
1964-6 steering setup- does a stock 64-66 P/S box have the same number of turns lock to lock as the manuel box or is it a quicker ratio box? does the P/S box ( in a stock 64-66 stock p/s setup) have the same stops/turn the truck left or right as tightly as a stock manual box? |

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but I believe that PS on truck thru '67 used a ram assist setup, not the interal box type like you are used to seeing. I think the ram assist setups used the same manual box but had a different center link that had a mount location for the ram to hook to and a bracket on the frame. I am not 100% clear on how they worked as I have never driven/worked on one. That said I also don't know if they changed the lock to lock ratio but I do think the turning radius stayed the same as the lower control arms had the steering stops and was what limited the left and right turning amount.

Chevy_mike is absolutely correct. On the stock PS setup the gearbox is basically the same as for manual. The center link is a PS-only part with a control valve mounted at the gearbox end and an attachment point for the external cylinder.

To my knowledge the steering box itself is the same between the manual steering and the hydraulic assist. The difference starts with the pitman arm, draglink, and the associated assist parts. Also this steering assist system is the same as used on the Corvette's thru about '77.
