On my 60 C-10, which I believe has the same size wheels as a 61, I have 700-15 LT.

i am just about to mount 235-75-15s on mine. That's as big as I dare go on the 5.5's and that's probably a stretch - but as you've seen, many of the other folks on the site have mounted the same size - that's pretty much the max section width (235) for a stock wheel. "Stock" is a 215 approx, I believe.

Interesting side note - am in the process of re-painting all my wheels. Thought I was all lucky and stuff to have the "original" spare - and I'm still convinced it is because it still had the never been used decrepit bias ply tire on it. But when I stacked my 5 wheels side by side, it became obvious that the spare was 15x6 while the stock 4 wheels are 5.5". I thought that was odd - because all appearances are that they're all the original wheels (and 5.5 is the correct size). So, maybe someone swapped in an aftermarket spare at some point - but it sure was old and it sure had an ancient tire on it that had never seen the pavement - original tread and all cracked and checked sidewalls of an old bias ply tire. It was Skiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnyyyy.

My 1960 GMC came stock with 15x6 wheels. Perhaps someone at the dealership just grabbed a spare out of the pile and didn't put any thought into whether it was the right one or not. After all these were mostly just appliances when new, so I doubt a great deal of effort went into making sure they were "correct".
