Rally wheel question
Hi Y'all
I have a question about these rally wheels. How do the center caps clip onto the wheel? Are my wheels missing some clips or something? I have included a picture of the truck here too to show off. Just got here back from the body shop for a makeover. Whadda Y'all think? |

Re: Rally wheel question
The rally wheel center caps screw onto the wheels. You can also get some late model center caps and attach those with lug nuts that are threaded on the outside so that you can attach the lugnut covers and hold the center cap in place.

Re: Rally wheel question
You'd be better off getting original caps and maybe having them rechromed if needed. I bought some of those repro caps from LMC for about $50. Just chrome plated plastic. Originals are metal. The "emblems" on repros is a sticker. A sticker? Take a guess what's gonna happen to that sticker the first time it gets wet. The emblems on originals is some kind of enamel. What year range are those rallys for?

Re: Rally wheel question
Your truck looks great. Did it need a lot of work or just a paint job?

Re: Rally wheel question
Shhhhh don't tell anyone but if you want baby moons for cheap $$$$ hit the big truck chrome shop and get yourself some Axle covers they lock on the corner of the lugs your going to need the ones for a 5 1/2" pattern like i said the slide over the axle nuts...you would think they would fly off bt with a little sweet talk and some lug turning a bit they go on and stay on!!!

Re: Rally wheel question
The center caps screw on with 3) 5/16"-18 x 3/4" screws/bolts. What I used on mine are the front caps (these are for 4x4's) that no body wanted because they are open on the ends. Then I cut 4 circles from stainless steel and siliconed them in from the backside. I also painted the flange the color I am going to paint the body. Here is a pic.....

Re: Rally wheel question
Hi Y'all
thanks for the responses. Hey Captainfab I like your idea about the 4wd caps, looks like enough room to mount a Pratt & Whitney radial engine emblem in the center of the cap hmmmmmm |

Re: Rally wheel question
here's some on ebay (6 lug rally caps) - I have a similar set from another seller, and I like them. They are not the heavy metal ones - these are plastic - which I thought I would not like, until i bought them.
not sure if these come with screws. jocko http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-...item53e3210400 Last edited by jocko; 08-28-2010 at 11:54 AM. |

Re: Rally wheel question
I remember that P&W logo when I worked there in West Palm Beach years ago. That would look cool. Make room for the wing tips.

They seem to be good quality, even though they are plastic. I was toying with putting them on my aluminum slots, but then decided against it. Last edited by lakeroadster; 10-23-2010 at 08:38 AM. |

Re: Rally wheel question
When I was at the Pomona Auto swap last weekend, I ran across a guy who is making clips that work for truck rally's. They were stainless steel clips that bolt to the holes for the factory caps. Once the clips were mounted, you can use any of the car rally caps and I would assume baby moon caps. It was really a slick idea and the wheels looked great with derby caps, painted wheels and trim rings. He was asking $60 for the full set and said they worked for both 5 and 6 lug truck rally's. It was a cool idea.

Re: Rally wheel question
You can also use the hub cap bolt holes to remove a wheel that it stuck on.
You need 3 about 1' long, thread them in till they hit the brake drum, them tighten evenly to pop off the wheel. There are 2 sets of holes, that on my wheels were a different size. |

Re: Rally wheel question
I just got a set of those wheels as well .... thinking about machining out some rings to 'cover' the slots in the wheels. Weld them in or bolt in from the rear ...
Then, I'll move onto a hub cap. Good ideas here, like the axle cover one !!

Re: Rally wheel question
I have six of those wheels. I think I have one center cap. I don't even remember where I got them from but I think they were free.

Re: Rally wheel question
I used the newer style caps with the black lug covers that thread onto the nut. I just painted the centers to go with my GMC.
