What Speakers Do You Use?

Hey,
I'm in the market of getting new speakers in my 05 Silverado and then putting the same speakers in my 77 later. I want something that sounds good. They are all going to be visible like in the doors or on the back of the cab so they should look nice...What do you all use and like?
Thanks

Re: What Speakers Do You Use?

The body man at my work had some speaker boxes in his 89 chevy dually that are designed to fit behind a chevy bench seat, so I took the measurements off them and built my own out of 3/4 inch particle board. It turned out pretty good. I put two 6x9s and one 8 inch kicker sub in the middle. I put a ported hole above each speaker, and a 800 watt sony xplod amp. Wayyy more than enough in a closed cab! Very good quality too! I'll give ya the dimensions for the box if you need. The passenger side of the box is closed off at the end, and the driver side is capped off about 8-10 inches in, and I screwed the amp inside the box inside that 8-10 inch space. Heres the pics:

Re: What Speakers Do You Use?

yes they are. I instantly thought of that as soon as I put it in and listened to it. The only thing in the box that isn't sharing the same air space is the amp. After thinking of that, I used a hole saw and drilled holes in the top to allow ventilation. Knowing what I know now, I think I would have installed separators between each speaker.

Re: What Speakers Do You Use?

I know everyone says that subs sharing air space with your mids and tweets are bad, but what is exactly wrong with that? Before, I had my 6x9s AND my sub hooked to the amp. Now just the sub is hooked to the amp and the 6x9s are hooked to the speaker outputs on the back of the deck. What's going to happen if they share the same air space? Thanks (Not to jack your thread :P)

Re: What Speakers Do You Use?

Well, one thing is... Sub is amped and the others aren't, if you turn up your amp and crank the deck, you might just end up blowin' the cones out the front of your speakers. Lots of air pressure in there, lookin' for a place to go. My little cousin' did it... "Dude, check out my new system!" ... **RIIIIP** blew the covers off of the 6x9's, cones and everything.

Re: What Speakers Do You Use?

Anything sharing airspace that dont have the exact same properties is a recipe for trouble. At lower levels it isn't so intense, but once things get bumpin, it won't take much to destroy speakers beyond the point of rebuild...
