Project - FrankenBurb in NE
Well, I finally decided to post some info about a '72 Burb I got back in 2009. Got it on EvilBay & was a little disappointed after she got here so it sat until this year. Promised my wife it would either be drivable or gone this year. Was really hoping it wouldn't be that hard to get into "driver" status but that's starting to look like a long dark tunnel - we'll see.
The good - check out the SPID!! Some decent options that made me want it & decent looking in the pics. 400BB, TH400, AC overhead, chrome bumpers, Posi, power steering, gauges. Now that I've hopefully peaked your interest ........

Now for the BAD:
She's got just a "little" rust. Oh well, at least it's got those nice options right!! Well, after some checking. How come the ps tire spins backwards when you spin the ds forward - DOOH - 1 legger. WTF, someone stole the posi!!! Opened it up to confirm. Found a 68 3.73 open section & housing - funny, it's got 5-lug axles. How come the drums are worn only 1.5" of the 2" & same with the pads only the opposite side. Someone stuck the longer 5-lug axles back in the shorter housing. Great, that rear end is ALL jacked up. ---Old--- Let's take a look at that engine suffix code - T0510TCM. Hmmm, can't find that under the 396/402 reference - let's look under T**. WTF is a 1970 366 from a 60 series doing in there??? ---Correction--- I have to correct that last part - suffix code is T0510TLM which IS the CORRECT 402!!!! NICE!! Now I have an EXTRA. ---End of Edit--- And the work begins .............

The OE wire harness made me cringe wondering if it would just burst into flames after I got some work done so I ordered the AAW harness & started to remove the old one.
Also decided I want about a 4/6 ride height when it's running so I bought the 5" kit with super track bar from ECE & have started with that install since the rear end is out right now. Had some C-notches that I was going to use on the 68 but since it's 2/4 currently & they weren't going to be used right away - Jake, my 13yo son helped me get those started this weekend. Since I like to make extra work for myself - I unknowingly put the Burb about 5' out of the reach of my plasma cutter so all the rivets & notch work had to be done with a die grinder - about 20x longer than it needed to be. Only got the DS notched & installed with the 4 bottom bolts. Still need to drill the side 4.

I've got a decent parchment seat in my 68 so when Randy (teeitup) had a pair of rear seats in parchment a while back, it only seemed right to grab those. They were a little nasty ......
but, I HAVE to keep telling myself - I just want a decent DRIVER!!! They didn't clean up too bad ..... Forgot to take DIRTY pics of the 2nd row but after cleaning it decided no one would believe me if I didn't at least get some of the 3rd row before I did it. This little seat project actually brought my wife out of the house & she worked right along with Jake & I on these. BTW, she really doesn't like the Burb but she indulges me so I can't complain one bit. Second row is really nice (think it was actually the 3rd before but it will be the 2nd now). Anyone notice the ONLY marks I couldn't get rid of .... Maybe this is a little easier to see. Sharpie just looks bright pink when you get the top layer of black off!! So it will have 3 rows of parchment seats when she's back on the road. Notice the SPID code is only for 2nd row seats. Figured what's the use in having a Burb if you can't load that baby up with people & stuff.

I made a score today that should correct the 366 problem the CORRECT way. Got home late today with it.
It feels good to set this part of the Burb on the right path. Thanks for the interest guys. We're having fun working on it & hope to be driving her soon. The rust might very well get temp patches right now & the real deal next spring. It's all going to depend on the 454/400 swap in the 68 C10 - FUN.

mmmm big blocks. don't throw that 366 out just yet. It has the same stroke as your 402. 366 396 402 and 427 all used the 3.76 stroke. cheap insurance if you need short block parts.

Got some more work done the last couple days. C-notches DONE. Upper shock relocation mounted. Old track bar cut out - bolt was RUSTED to the bushing so bad it looked almost solid when it was cut out.
Too bad I don't have the rear end I was supposed to pick up this weekend!! Would have been real nice to have the rear, 5" springs & shocks in there with it sitting ON THE GROUND again. Hopefully very soon. Making progress but it's just never quite fast enough for me.

Sorry for the lack of progress. I scored a 1-leg 3.07 (just in case) a couple weeks ago but THIS was scored yesterday for $120 & some gas $. Can't wait to blast, shoot & install. Have all new brake parts (less drums) & probably put new seals in while I'm at it. Any recommendations to shoot the housing with - POR-15, puff cans (brands?), other?

Well it's been a LONG time since I posted any progress at all. The Burb is wired enough to fire up & run in the drive but still need to wire the front (headlight) harness & the run, turn, brakes in the back.
Went to a swap meet last weekend & picked up these. A little rough but not too bad. Spent about an hour or less hitting the right one with 220 sandpaper. Thinking about polishing the sides & painting between the grooves. The 402 is about ready to be machined. Thought I'd mock up a few things acquired for it.

The 402 is getting built & almost done. He's waiting on me to bring him the intake (getting Ceramic Coated) & he'll finish putting it together. He discovered someone put a steel crank in it & the journals needed polished, the rockers were pretty wore out & he thought we should move from the 3/8 to 7/16 push rods & guide plates, a few valves were a little bent & needed new ones, but the bore took .030 over with ease. It should be back next week so look for pics.

Here's a little teaser for anyone watching. The air cleaner is a hint to what's happening with the valve covers - it was chrome.
Edelbrock Air Gap intake (ceramic coated), Sanderson headers (cc), ARP bolt kit, aluminum water pump, red to eventually match the Burb.

Got the old motor pulled out today & was finally able to check ALL the stamping numbers. I only checked the deck code before - and copied it WRONG. I "thought" the deck stamp was T0510TCM but it is "actually" T0510TLM which is a 402. All the other casting numbers confirm the same 402 info. This motor was probably the ORIGINAL 402, not a 366 like I thought. So now I have two 402's & will probably save this one for something else.

If your looking for axles Speedway in Lincoln has 5 lug axles that will go right in there... and be the correct width.

Well there's no pics but I have made a fair amount of progress. Installed motor & got the important stuff hooked up to fire it for break-in. THAT was FUN!! Now the headers are back on & all the front end wiring is done. The rear is wired but it's just crimped together inside the rear - but it does all work. Had a draw on the battery that sucked it dry overnight - ended up being inside the Alternator. Got some rubber on it & painted the rallys deep red to match the body. Working to install my 52 Bel-Air hub caps at some point. Been working on aftermarket gauges for now. Sticking with OEM speedo but putting aftermarket tach in the fuel gauge location. Also aftermarket (fuel, water temp, oil press, batt) in the lower 4 holes. Hoping to drive it over for exhaust next week so I can finally get it on the road.
She still needs a lot of things done, but I'm just dying to drive it so I'll have to whittle away at the little things & just get it on the road. Stealthy, Wahoo swap meet is Apr 22. I'll probably go. LMK if you want to.
