86-up 14 bolt FF drums slip off ?
i have been told that 86-up 10.5" 14 bolt FF brake drums slip off over the hub and are not under the axle flanges like the previous years, is this true ?

I don't think so. Or maybe I am not sure. My 14FF came out of a 86 one ton. The drum assembly comes off by me unbolting and removing the axle shafts and removing the retaining lock nut. Than the whole drum assembly slips right off the axle flange.
I know that Chevy made a 14 bolt that was is a semi floating. That drum comes off as easy as taking off a tire. Hope this Helps.. Working on a 4 link coil over spring front suspenion with 63inch leaf link rear suspenion. Running 38 Ground Hawg tires on custom 16.5 bead locked rims. 8 point roll cage and lots of other goodies. Its my money pit land boat, but I love it!!

I'm the third owner of this 74 Chevy K-5 Blazer mostly stock back in the day. Since the start of the build up the truck now has a 540 Tall Deck Big Block Chevy, 4.5 bore, speed-o-motive 4.25 stroked crank, 10 to 1 pistons that are 60 over, 800 CFM performer carb on a 454-0 aluminum intake, Brodix 2X aluminum heads with full rocker cam and 7:1 lifters. hooker heads with 2" primary and 4" collectors to a pair of flowmasters. A preped 700R4 rated to 700HP, 205 T-case, Dana 60 front limited slip, Corp 14 bolt rear lockers, with 4:88. Working on a 4 link coil over spring front suspenion with 63inch leaf link rear suspenion. Running 38 Ground Hawg tires on custom 16.5 Trail Ready bead locked rims. Custom dash with Auto meter gauges, Bear custom seats, 8 point roll cage and lots of other goodies. Its my money pit land boat, but I love it!! |

reason I ask is because i saw an ad for disc brake kits for 14 bolt axles and for the 10.5" full floaters it had an applicqation for the full floating axles 86 up that have slip off drums.
wierd... |

Think it was a little later than 86 but not sure. Definatly nicer to be able to pull the drums off with out pulling axles.

acocrding to aftermarket disc brake manufacturers its an 86-up thing
so its true, this was done ? |

Fast, It was DEFINATLY done. Just not sure what year. I know of a 98 courier van with pull of drums but cant say for sure of any other years. Think it was 88 or so.
