Re: help getting 400-450 hp

vortecs will not get you there.. maybe flywheel gross hp..

I'd look ad dart/afr/brodix
450 out of a n/a 350 is a tempermental beast..
you sure you can live with a set up like that

Re: help getting 400-450 hp

an honest 400hp at the crank will even take decent heads if you keep streetable compression.

Re: help getting 400-450 hp

depends on budget. edelbrock performer rpm heads are decent street heads. i've seen lots of em used for $500-700 and they are legit 400hp. afr 185's are a better but then again will cost more. i would stay under 10.5:1 for premium fuel to be safe. people have run higher but cam selection becomes very important. also if you get some "bad gas" it could get ugly

Re: help getting 400-450 hp

Re: help getting 400-450 hp

I would find the cam lifter head match up and go from there. i have 215 dart heads and standard stroke with high comp and do about 650 at the wheel,Call Kirk at bullet cams and he will figure you out a pack, what to do and I promise you won't be hurt at all!

Re: help getting 400-450 hp

you can do all you want up top and i dont understand why everyone always thinks in that direction. but i personaly would run the heads you have and put a 3.75 inch crank in it with corosponding parts and a good cam. you can always build the top later. It is usally the best way to go for the street. like most have said on here a 350 pushing 400hp is going to be a beast... but in my opinion a mild build on a 383 will get you 400 ponys no problem...

Re: help getting 400-450 hp

Keep in mind, when you go with a longer stroke crank, you probably need to go with a new rod and piston as well to make everything work. But if you are going to do it, do it right. Make it stronger than your intended usage.

Re: help getting 400-450 hp

& as you step up in demand for air, (stroke, rpm or cubic inches) you need to revisit cam, heads, intake carb, exhaust..... your motor is a 'combination' of parts that can work together, and compliment each other, , or cost power, $'s and headaches.
I'd suggest you settle on a 'plan' and work forward towards that end.

Re: help getting 400-450 hp

Yes the '95-00 350's were all fuel injected. But that doesn't mean you can't put a carburetor on it. Your block will have a date code on it. It will be located on the bellhousing flange just over towards the passenger side from where you found the 10243880.

That's the same casting number I used on the last 350 I built. Mine came out of a '98 2500. It should be similar to mine. One piece rear main seal, roller cam, windage tray, powdered metal rods, 4 bolt main (some are 2 bolt).

Should be a great 350 to start with. Those PM rods are good.

exactly! dont go out and buy alot of amazing parts because of great reviews... if ya did that ya sure you have amazing parts but if they dont mesh well your not gonna get anywhere. get a set of heads that breath well for sure and get a real plan going then go out and do it. if you could build a good mild 383 roller motor that would be a stout setup. in ontario comp cams sells a full kit on ebay for 1000$ heres the link

http://cgi.ebay.ca/COMP-CAMS-SBC-MUT...item53e4389bb3

and if you get impatient get a strong crank throw it in and shoot it with a 200hp shot and prey she doesnt pop hahaha. but really man good luck well worth it to do properly. i was at 410hp before my roller build and even with the 410 it is a riot to see peoples jaws drop when you eat em ! special 5.0 stangs and any ricer out there :P haha

if you have the money i sware by brodix and AFR both are great! but if your short on $$$ you could always take your heads out take em to a machine or motorshop and have them port them out, polish em and have them set up for bigger valves
