drop spindals

I have a 69 drum bake truck and bought drop spindals that would fit 73-87 trucks. I know that there have been others that have made the swap but I have run into a problem with the upper ball joint not drawing up.
I replaced the lower ball joint with 73-87 and got the tierod ends.I was wondering if anyone had a problem with the upper ball joint when changing from drum brakes to a drop spindal from a 73-87 truck?
It also appears that the chamber? top to bottom is negative. Has anyone rum into this problem? Thanks Eric

Looks like Part# cp4sc-s. $49.00/pair.
I would confirm that number with CPP to make sure.

You will also need to use 67-70 "outer" tie rods (5/8" RH thread) in the "inner" tie rod location so they will work with your 73-87 "outer" tie rods (11/16" LH thread).

Re: drop spindals

Hi!

I have the same problem! Yesterday i would change from disc to drum!

I ve bought dropspindles from a friend.They are from an 1983 C 10!

My car is an 1970 GMC!

So have to order upper an lower ball joints from an C10 73-87 !?

And the tie rod ends... i must order the outer ends from 73-87 and the inner ends from 67-72???

The ball joints will fit in my upper und lower control arms???

Would be someone so kind and give me the partnumbers for the ball joints and tie rod ends that i need???

I would order at cpp...i fear that i order the wrong parts!

Thanks for answering

Sascha

Re: drop spindals

and the inner ends from 67-72??? No
You must use 67-70 outer tie rods in the inner position so they will thread together with the 73-87 outer tie rods. (after 1970,... the '71-87 tie rods ends swapped the thread direction of their tie rod ends)

The ball joints will fit in my upper und lower control arms??? Yes

Would be someone so kind and give me the part numbers for the ball joints and tie rod ends that i need???
This will depend on where you order them from.
I can give you Classis Parts numbers from my catelog.

They now make many versions of the drop spindle.
The best answer I can give is to select the one that matches the "year"
of the truck you are working on.
This way,... there is no need to change balljoints or tie rod ends.

Here's a list of what's available:

C-10
1960-62
1963-70
1971-72
1973-87 (1" wide rotor)
1973-87 (1.25 wide rotor)

C-20
1971-87

C-30
1973-87

No here's the problem:
Some of the 60-70 drum brake trucks, have had disc brakes added by the previous owner.
The new owner doesn't know what parts were used.
This is where "trying to identify" what is currently on the truck, becomes an issue.

The other problem is when the truck owner wants to use parts from a donor truck or someone has given him a crossmember from a newer truck.
You will need to address all the steeringg linkage and the balljoints.
This all needs to be thought out in advance of buying parts.

I put 71-72 drop spindles on my '69swb because I got them cheap.
This costs more than using the correct 63-70 "conversion spindles",... in the long run.

Re: drop spindals

Power Brake booster:

http://www.classicparts.com/1967-72-...ctinfo/71-914/ Yes that will work if you have disc up front and drum brakes on the back.

Brake hoses:

2 each part#71-315
If you have air ride up front,... the longer 73-87 hoses will work better.

Calliper:

http://www.classicparts.com/1972-78-...ctinfo/71-161/YES IF YOUR ROTORS ARE 1-1/4 INCH WIDE

http://www.classicparts.com/1972-78-...ctinfo/71-162/YES IF YOUR ROTORS ARE 1-1/4 INCH WIDE

Brake pads:

http://www.classicparts.com/1971-83-...ctinfo/71-015/YES

Do you have caliper bolts part # 71-175 (4 total)?
Do you have the banjo bolts to connect the rubber hoses to the calipers?
