Re: dash style fill me in
Well that's not quite true, our GMC's do have an elevated hump over the gauges. See Pic.

Re: dash style fill me in
I know, it was a chevy thing. I wonder what the designers were trying to explain? The funny thing about it was other than the double hump, the rest of the interor was the same (not counting he clover box door).

I can't agree with your comment, "I" think it looks rather sophisticated and balanced out, maybe I'm just partial to the GMC. Remember the GMC were rather look upon as a "hard worked" vehicle. Who knows it ain't worth fighting over. Be careful, I got a post reported but somebody because I made a slight against another truck. I know you don't mean anything by it though.

Re: dash style fill me in
I agree on the double hump .. Love It !!! But I like all of the dash styles because it adds character to each truck , just as the grills and hoods do .. I think a majority of us buy either what looks or appeals to us or what kind of deal we can get when purchasing our next project ... just my 2 cents ..

Re: dash style fill me in
That's what happened to me. My favorite of the bunch is the 1963 and that's what I was looking for. I preferred the double hump dash best, and wanted the coil spring front suspension. Although I prefer the 63 Chevy grille over all the other Chevy versions, I always intended to replace it with a GMC version as I liked that even better.
All that went out the window when I found a cherry, one family 1960 GMC. In spite of being the least desirable model I could imagine (to me) with the 800 pound V6 and the original hood, it was so nearly new I just couldn't pass it up. |

Re: dash style fill me in
This is my 1960 dash.
I do have a question; If you look closely, there are 4 screws holding the dash speaker in. Are these original ? I don't thing they are, but not sure. we are ready to paint the dash before the new windshield goes in.

Re: dash style fill me in
I have a 61 and the original speaker is still in it. It also has screws from the top. As far as I can tell, it is original. There's a bracket that holds the speaker in. My screws are around the vent not between.

Re: dash style fill me in
I've had 2 different '60's and neither had the screws from teh top. The OEM manual shows a speaker bracket with a square piece of rubber that mounts under the dash and holds the speaker in place.

Re: dash style fill me in
mine had I think 2 screws maybe 3 and the truck was all original. but you have to remember that a lot of stuff as far as radio was done by the dealer and may have been done different ways.
