not sure it matters...with the 6.0's you want '01 up....so I'd say the same or newer?

Unlike the 6.0 the 5.3 is good right from the start. Generally speaking horsepower ratings increase as you get newer.
99-02 if you cant a cable TB 03+ got DBW The reason you want 01+ for the 6.0 is 00- came with cast iron heads and a longer rear crank snout which is used for 4l80e but cannot be used with the 4l60e. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_LS_engine And here is a pretty good deal on a 06 5.3/4l60e not that far from you http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...d.php?t=472218 Last edited by usmcchevy; 11-14-2010 at 01:38 PM. pretty sure you can just change it for a cable throttle and then make changes in PCM for it.

Don't let the drive-by-wire deter you (03-up except vans). If you get one, get the pedal and cable too. If you want to convert to cable, you just need a cable intake and throttle body. They're cheap (like $75 cheap) and you could sell your drive-by-wire and make money.
Go for the most complete, lowest cost, lowest miles first and figure the rest out in my opinion.

That sounds like a great deal. However, if it were me I would ask for some proof that it is a 5.3 and not a 4.8. Not that a 4.8 is bad by any means, but it sounds like some people on this board have paid for one thing and got another. Can you see the truck it came out of or at least the airbox sticker that gives the engine size. Is it a private seller or a salvage yard?
