3/4 ton drop spindle problem
Here's the deal, I purchased 3" drop spindles for my 1971 c20 from airbagit.com(I know alot of people are not big fans) so I installed them today with a total front end rebuild with all moog parts. Everything bolted up fine until it was time to bolt on the calipers. the caliper boss on the new spindles is smaller than the stock one. I'd rather not mess with changing the spindles again. I wanted to replace the calipers also and now maybe rotors anyway. Has anybody had this problem? I just need to figure what calipers and rotors will work. Yes I will call Airbagit tomorrow to see what they say. Thanks for any help, Tom

Re: 3/4 ton drop spindle problem
I was looking into getting this kit from them also but I changed my mind when I found out they didnt have a very good reputation. They offer two types of spindles, Clip on calipers or Bolt on calipers. Witch did you get?

Re: 3/4 ton drop spindle problem
I ordered bolt on. The spindels bolted up with no problem, just trying to figure what parts I need to make them work.I talked to them today to see what they can do and they're going to check the caliper mounting measurements to figure out what they sent me. To me it looks like a caliper and or a rotor swap to make this work. Which is fine because all of it is old.I'll keep u posted.

Re: 3/4 ton drop spindle problem
Update: I figured out what the problem is, I can mount the caliper fine the problem is the inside pad won't fit like it's to thick or so I thought. The only thing it can be is that the spindle shaft is pressed to far in, not much but just enough to not let the inner pad fit. I could shave the inner pad or shim the rotor's inner bearing to give more space but I should'nt have to,so I'll call Airbagit on Monday, they've been very helpful in trying to figure this out. They said they'll do what ever it take's to make it right.

Man that really sucks, I was really hoping that they would come through. I guess they can still correct the issue but there reputation continues to get tarnished. |

Re: 3/4 ton drop spindle problem
I talked to Kenny @ airbaggit on Monday about the problem, he had the a new set of spindle's mocked up with rotors, calipers&pads. I'll get them on Tuesday & check them with my rotors & calipers before I install them on my truck. Then install a new set of 5" drop springs in the rear from GMC pauls for 3/4 ton & move the shocks & off for a front end alignment

Re: 3/4 ton drop spindle problem
Send them back.
Don't shim a bearing. You shouldn't have to do the R&D for them. Don't be surprised if there is a "re-stocking" charge. That's part of their bad reputation.

Re: 3/4 ton drop spindle problem
Sorry, I was in in a rush to beat the snow when I was changing out the spindles the first time, then was frustrated trying to figure out why the calipers would'nt fit to take pictures. By the time I got ot done (Friday night, late) it was off to get the front aligned. Now I need to get the back dropped but that will have to wait until after the holidays,I purchased the rear 5" drop for a 3/4 ton from GMC Pauls plus I need to relocate my shock mounts & figure out a adj. Panhard bar for my factory Big block th 400 combo that nobody makes.
