Airplane!
Well, I finally got a chance to take some more pics with my new 17" wheel combo. The only thing I love as much, if not more, than old Chevy trucks is old piston driven warbirds. The only problem is most of them are WWII vintage, which is a couple decades before our trucks were made. Our trucks were made in the height of the Vietnam War, which mostly used jet propelled aircraft. There were a few exceptions, though. I talked to our local warbird museum (www.tnairmuseum.com) and they recently purchased a Vietnam War veteran A1H Skyraider. The Skyraider was used mostly as ground troop support, taking out ground targets with rockets, guns, and dropping napalm. It's actually the predecessor to the A10 Warthog used today. The Skyraider was never intended to dogfight, but they did rack up a few lucky(or desperate) Mig kills. They said I could take some photos with the planes as backgrounds.
The day I went, they didn't have the Skyraider out, but they did have this T-28 training plane. The T-28's also saw some action during the Vietnam War. They were used mostly as Recon, but some were used for ground support missions. I thought this was just a cool shot. They did open the hangar and let me pull in to take some shots with the Skyraider. At first, I didn't like this shot at all, until I really looked at it, then I thought it was really kinda neat. And finally, one of just the truck. I hope you guys enjoy the pics and the history lesson.

Brought back some memories. My boy trained in those T-28's on his way to Helo SAR pilot.
Cool pics!

Re: Airplane!
Your truck is looking better than ever! These trucks and the "Flying Dump Trucks" are both two true survivors standing the test of time and diversity. As Douglas was developing these,nay-sayers were plentiful, since it was the dawning of the jet age. These saw more uses and stood the test of time beyond the jets it shared the taramacks with. You could hang whatever you had on one of these and they could take it.Pretty much like the line of 67-72 GM trucks.

Re: Airplane!
Nice pix.
Somewhere in my 'Nam photo stash, is a pic of a Skyraider that came it w/o landing gear fully-down, at Bien Hoa, RVN. The pic I took is of that plane with the prop wrapped around the engine cowl, since it was till turning as it hit the runway. Parked right beside it was a B-26. Don't remember if the RVN Air Force used them, or why it might have been there, but it was there.

Re: Airplane!
Well, I work with my parents at a picture frame business. The museum has sent lots of stuff here to be framed. I asked them about doing some pics a few months ago and they said it would be fine. I just got a chance to catch them out this past Saturday.

Re: Airplane!
great photos, I love those old planes as well. I included a set of wings in the dead space of my dash. was also thinking about adding a little nose art somewhere on the truck.

Re: Airplane!
Those are some fantastic pictures. My favorite is the plane in the mirror. You have a good looking truck.
