Cruise Control Help
So after quite a while without cruis control I want it back again.
Truck came with it stock, took it off when we built the motor and never hooked it back up. I've got the big round piece that the wiring harness plugs into and it has 2 vacuum hose spots and I have a small little vacuum canister or something (not real sure what it is, or if it even goes with the cruise control, it has 2 big fttings for vacuum hose. What all does it take to hook the cruise control back up? |

Re: Cruise Control Help
I am no expert, but:
Big round thing with harness = servo Vacuum canister = vacuum tank (holds extra vacuum for servo operation). Likely you have two tanks - one for cruise and one for HVAC operation - one each on both extreme sides of the firewall. Also, should be a cruise control module (circuit board in a a box) under the dash around the steering column area. I believe there is also a vacuum valve in the vacuum hoses that controls vacuum flow for cruise control. I have never found a competent mechanic for cruise control diagnosis/repair. I think this is a specialty service. I would get a diagram from someone here or look one up in All Data, etc. Vacuum system integrity is critical for proper cruise control operation - finding vacuum leaks has been the problem on my truck - sounds simple but nobody can find my leaks. |

Re: Cruise Control Help
Thanks for the info. All the vacuum system "circuitry" has always confused me on my truck. I've got so many lines running around under the hood that aren't connected on one side, only things hooked up are my brake booster, vacuum advance, and HVAC controls at the moment, but I really want to get the cruise control working again.

Re: Cruise Control Help
Maybe someone with an 86 can post pics of their stock setup here. Mine is an 83 and likely has some variations compared to your 86.
