big block headers? (i know beat to death)
i know this question has been beat to death but i'm trying to help a good friend of mine find the right headers for his truck. He's a older guy and dosen't have a computer or anything.
the truck is a '68 long bed stepside with a 396 out off a chevelle SS. he wants to find a decent set of headers that will not cause clearence problems. he would like to use some kind of shorty if there are any but will also look at full lenght. they also need to be able to work with a manual and an auto because the truck is currently a muncie but he will be going to a 700r4. any help would mean alot because this guy is basically one of my role models he knows a wealth of stuff about cars but he is limited about aftermarket highperformance stuff. thanks ryan c ------------------ Pot holes are my enemy '84 1\2 ton swb, 350 5\7 drop just sold '64 1\2 ton 4\4 drop with built 350 (my toy)

I cant say for sure on the big blocks,but just installed a set of Hooker Comps on the longhorn & was really happy with the fit. The Headmans that I took off had the collectors "cockeyed",1 pointed up, & the other down.....lots of ground clearance. .....69 longhorn

I put on a set of Dynomax headers on my BB over a year ago. Went on nice, no problems, no leaks, and I like 'um.

I have Thorley Tri Y Headers on my 402BB. Easy install.

I bought Heddman's but you have to "NASCAR" the gaskets or do them once a month!!! (NASCAR means buy two sets, stick'em together with red hi-temp silicone, coating the inside surfaces well, then coating the outside surfaces as well before putting in. Messy but the only way I've found to seal up some headers. Trick was taught to me by my friend who works on lots of race cars.

Yeah -- Hedman's are junk. I bought their "Elite" Headers, and had the same problem with one collector pointing up, the other down. The cylinder head-to-header gaskets they sent didn't even fit their own headers -- the gasket port IDs were too large. Their "hi-temp" coating is actually silver paint and started rusting after only a few months. What a joke! I ended up using stock (shiny silver) Fel Pro gaskets, but finally removed the headers altogether. I, too, have heard good things about the DynoMax headers. They are ceramic coated, have a lifetime warranty, and are only a little over $200 at SummitRacing.com. Hooker Super Comps are also good, but expensive.

Hard to beat Hooker headers. They make a quality product. And if he has the extra cash, spring to have them ceramic coated. They will then last a lifetime.
