Installing Front Coil Springs on '65 C10

Whats the best way to install front springs on a bare chassis? Doing a frame off restoration. The chassis is bare. The front crossmember has been put back in. Went with disc brake conversion was trying to put it all back together. Ive talked to people and they have said that the spring compressors wouldnt work. Any help will be appreciated.

Springs can be a scary thing. I personally use very long light rate springs to store energy for the drag strip. These springs are probably more of a pain than anything you will install as they are almost 18" long I litereally have tried 6 different springs in the front of my truck and have compressed through the lower control arm and swung the arm up (doesn't always work well).

Have had the lower control arm all the way off and compressed the spring to it, then using a jack raised the control arm in place putting the u-bolts on the shaft to the cross member and the ball joint on (Not recomended)

Is your upper control arm on the truck?

There is a hole in the upper spring perch that is visable between the shaft and control arm. I recently drilled mine big enough for a single screw spring compressor that you can rent from autozone. I then took the bolt with out the washer on and dropped it through the hole (but make sure your hole is just big enough for the bolt). Put the the spring up in the perch and screw the compressor arms on. Tighten her up and then swing the lower control arm up in place connecting it to the ball joint.

This is the best and what I feel safest route.
