Front Driveline woes

Hey,

So my 71 Jimmy has a custom ~2" lift up front, ~1.5" in back. 350/350/205 are all sitting in the stock location. When we parked the truck in 1998 apparently the front driveline was not installed (I remember nuking a U joint the summer before this, and maybe we never put it back in). My dad's barn is a mess-too many projects have came and went, and we cannot locate the stock driveline. Rumor has it that 73+ will work with a ~6" lift? Eliminated the CV joint up by the top U joint?

I havnt found a local 67-72 4X4 to get the driveline from, and I'm hoping I dont have to blow big bucks for a custom made one. Any ideas? I really dont want any more lift than I already have-so going with 4" lift plus later style driveline is kind of out of the question.

You should be able to find a stock driveline that will fit. If you become a subscribing member, you can post a "wanted to buy" thread. There are several board members in the Portland/vancouver area and vendors Wes and Frank just up the road in Olympia. You could also check with businesses like http://www.drivelinesnw.com/ or http://www.oly4x4.com/ (I'm sure there is probably a 4wd shop or two in the Portland area).

You could also check the classified sections on boards like ck5.com and pirate4x4.com

I have a 6" skyjacker lift on my blazer, and the stock front driveshaft, fits just fine.

I found locally through CL from a guy who's on these forums (not necessarily the Blazer forum tho). So onto the next hangup, I swear I'll get this thing roadworthy soon.

Yeah, thanks Mel. I grabbed 2 U-straps from my dad's stash of parts, seems one is fine thread, one is course (one nut missing, I figured they were all the same), and of course I grabbed the one I didnt need-and everything at my house is metric from 'newer' American cars. Probably wait on getting the right nut when I'm back over by Parkrose Hardware. Its not like the driveline is holding me up from moving it around.
