i need fire wall pics!
Thanksgiving day for the first time went to the turkey rod run in daytona beach. Man I tell you what, what a show I spent 6 hours in the swap meet and maybe only seen 20% of the whole place next year im spending the whole weekend. well let me get to the point. I was looking at the engine bays of all the ad's and noticed no one there was running a fan on the water pump. It was all elec. fans and the belt setup was a finger with from the rad. LS motors sat real low in the frame you could almost not see them intel you looked down inside. LT motors sat high enough the valve covers where even or just above the fenders.
My thing is I didnt see any recessed fire walls. so ive been looking online at chevy of the forties and the recess looks to be too wide. I want to put the brake booster on the fire wall and also dont want the steering column to come thru the recess either. So please give me some ideas or companies that carry an alternative. SHOW ME YOUR FIRE WALLS PLEASE!!!!! |

I got mine from direct sheet metal. My original was butchered so bad I didn't have a choice. Theres room for a booster.

Re: i need fire wall pics!
I agree with your assesment. I have an electric fan in front of the radiator as I only have minimal room between the radiator and the front of the engine.
My firewall and inner fenders are from bitcin (spelled wrong to get past the filter) Products. Basically the same as Sheet Metal Direct. I think the size of the set back is a little much. It can make it difficult to place your brake booster and bulk head if running AC. I have inner fenders that came with the kit but I have not mounted them yet. Good luck Marc

Re: i need fire wall pics!
I did the Bichin also, but I need to build a little recess for the distributor because we are running a big block. There is no way to get a fan on the water pump without a lot of moving things around. We are running a PRC radiator with an electric fan. There are probably some other pictures on my build threah but here is one I found of the firewall and recess...post number 256

Re: i need fire wall pics!
I'm running an LS motor and i have room to run a mechanical fan if I wanted. I just prefer electric. If you have access to a plasma, make your own to your specs.

Re: i need fire wall pics!
I am running a LS engine with the stock firewall. I have plenty of room around the engine. I will be running a electric fan but there is room for a manual on the water pump. I have more pics. if you need more detail.

Re: i need fire wall pics!
Here's mine, made from .083 sheet metal (not a kit):
I wanted everything to clear the big block, so the recess is wider and deeper than usual.

Re: i need fire wall pics!
OK, I know this will sound crazy, But, in the 80's I used to use wheel barrow tubs to make custom firewalls. The large contractor tubs will fit big blocks nicely, and they have a nice round shape. just trim them to the depth you want. Sorry, don't have any picts handy .
