Using stock fuel pump

Here's my idea, The stock fuel pump was included for my engine and trans(07 4.8/4L80e). So I'm thinking about removing the pump from the bucket and adapting it to my blazer tank pickup, like Larry S did here.

My Idea is basically, cut off the end of the blazer pickup tube. Attach the pump's output to the tube using high pressure hose and support the pump in some way. I would need to use the vette filter/reg as I would be eliminating the internal filter/reg in the pump bucket.

So questions are;
1, Anyone done this? I tried PM'ing Larry S but he hasn't been on here in just about a year.
2, Can I run an internal pump without a bucket?
3, Any other thoughts?

I tried using the stock one inside my rear mounted blazer gas tank and it worked pretty good. The only way it would fit was without the sending unit/float so that was the main reason I removed it put in the stock sending unit and used an external pump (Walbro 255 $100 on ebay). What gas tank are you using? If its not the blazer tank you might be able to fit that pump in there with the float.

Thanks for the reply! I'm using a 67-72 Blazer tank. So you are running a Walbro 255 with a stock blazer pick up (no bucket)?

Ya, I'm using the factory 67-72 blazer pick up that came with the new 67-72 blazer gas tank, and I have a hose running off of that to the external Walbro pump mounted on the cross member right in front of the tank. When I had the factory gm pump for ls motors mounted inside the tank there was no way to fit a fuel gauge sending unit in there along with the pump that I could figure out.

We modified my LS pump (2004 Chevy) with an '85 sending unit. I call it FrankenPump.





I still have to hook the wires up and install the the fuel sender from my original gas tank but the biggest factor is I used a 2000 Wrangler tank with baffles so I can run without the bucket.

That looks exactly like what I had done originally but it was just too screwy so I removed it lol!

I completely understand. I have also been looking at options for fuel pumps. I have not convinced myself I could sleep at night knowing that thing was in my fuel tank... just laying there... waiting.
