Roll up rear window in 69-72?
I've never lurked around the other years' threads until today. I didn't know that the later year blazers had roll-up windows in the rear. Does anyone know if this is possible to do in a 69-72?
I guess that question is bad because anything is possible...but does any know what it would take to get it done, and if the later year windows match up with a 69-72 top if you used their rubber?

You could do it, but plan on a lot of fabrication work. The sheet metal and the fiberglass, as well as the glass, are different.
You should also know that the 73-up Blazers had problems with the rear windows. They didn't do a good job of keeping dirt and moisture out of the regulator mechanism, and those would wear out pretty frequently. |

Re: Roll up rear window in 69-72?
The obvious problem is that the 69-72 style was a lift gate with glass and a separate (truck style) tailgate. The 73-91 had a special tailgate with the glass in it. The fiberglass/composite tops have no hatch, the glass just rolls up into it, similar to how our door glass runs up into the top on a 72. So to make a 72 similar to a 73+ you would have to build a custom tailgate that could hold a glass and lifting regulator assembly, AND you would have to do some major fiberglass work on the 72 top so that it would have a glass channel with seals and felt for the glass to roll up into. I'm sure everyone realizes all this, I was just talking through it and to be quite honest it would be a major project.
Like you said nothing is impossible, but that would be A LOT of work, even for a show vehicle.

Re: Roll up rear window in 69-72?
Thanks for crushing my dreams truckster and critter...haha. Seriously though, thanks a lot of the info...I can't believe how much I don't know about these trucks/blazers. The only reason I even asked this question is because I never payed attention to the later year blazers. I just found out today by reading through those years' part of the forum that 73-75 blazers also have full convertable tops (I thought it was ONLY 69-72) and that they even had a roll up window option (I thought they all had hatches just like mine/ours).
It sure does sound like a lot of work...I guess if was pretty simple, it'd already be done for that "just because I can" reason.

Re: Roll up rear window in 69-72?
I've thought about this a bunch. I've even gone as far as collecting the parts and taking some measurements.....But the hatch has grown on me since then. I probably won't ever attempt it.
