WTT: 3 series posi for 4 series posi-12 bolt

** I purchased a 4 series and will be creating a for sale thread for my 3 series posi**

I have a 3 series factory Eaton posi that I would like to trade for a 4 series posi. Just the carrier, I don't have the complete rear.

FYI: 3 series = 2.76 to 3.42 factory gears
4 series = 3.73 and numerically higher

Is there a easy way to tell them apart?

Casting number. Mine is 32212. Not sure what a 4 series number is but post up what you have and I can do some research.

Don't know, but I am going to try to only swap the carrier and keep my gears like what is being talked about here. So I really should have a 4 series.

Sure that 8 isn't a 6? Looks like 30060 is the series 4 that I need. Here is my series 3.

Re: WTT: 3 series posi for 4 series posi-12 bolt

I ran searches on this site and on google. Everything I can find points to 32212 being series 3 and 30060 being series 4.

All I KNOW is that a 32212 carrier is what they put 3.07's on at the factory. I just took a 3.07 ring gear off this one and the posi with 3.07 gears I sold a month ago was a 32212.

I'll call around tomorrow to see if I can verify any of this info lol

Re: WTT: 3 series posi for 4 series posi-12 bolt

I called Randy's ring and pinon 1-866-631-0196. They couldn't do anything with casting numbers, but told me how to measure.
With the carrier sitting on its end or the bearing on a flat level surface measure to where the ring gear mounts.

1.709 = 2.76-3.42
1.996 = 3.73+

This makes mine a 2.76-3.42

I asked about putting a 3.07 gear on a 3.73+ carrier and was told it was not recommended to try.
