i have a small 1/2 horse 1 gallon air compressor that id like to mount inside my toolbox for airing up tires when off road and eventually running train horns and whatever else i need. what is all involved to wire it all in? i want to use a toggle inside the cab. can i just wire it direct to the battery with a fuse or???

Truck stops should have a inverter you can just plug into your cig. lighter.

this would be awesome if i had the funds.. my dad just had to move across the country for a job and he left me all of his tools and the compressor was among them so right now im in it for $0.00.

ill probably get the adapter. i just hope i can wire it in to the battery or fuse box.

Without seeing the inverter it's hard to say which way you could wire it up.
Compresors generally have big draws, you'll want to make sure your wires are big enough, and that you have the proper relays and such...Do more research, it's way to easy to burn your truck down.

We have a small inverter connected directly to the battery on our RV so my wife can use her laptop while we're on the road.

I'm not sure how much your compressor draws. I have a portable 2g that draws 15.kw. You'll need at least a 2500kw inverter to run that. The inverter is going to run you about $230 (you may find slightly better deals here and there) and it will require a continous 200amp supply.

An inverter of that side has to be wired directly to the source because it, just like a big stereo amp, is far too big for existing circuits in the truck. That will work fine with the truck running but you would also need a couple of auxilary battaries to use it with the engine off.
