Front bumper spare tire carrier
I have a 1977 Scottsdale and want to mount my spare tire to the front bumper. Does anyone know of a company that sells an aftermarket product for this? We already checked with JC Whitney and did a general internet search to no avail. Thanks for your help.

I don't have a bumper around yet to measure.....

Re: Front bumper spare tire carrier
None of my business, but why mount the tire in front of the radiator? You can get rear carriers and parts easily online.

Re: Front bumper spare tire carrier
My guess is he has a specific need to mount it up front.

Re: Front bumper spare tire carrier
I've seen pictures of them mounted on the front, but never seen one in person. We'll just have to keep lookin around for you Maybe it was a factory option?

Re: Front bumper spare tire carrier
One place I know they came factory was on the K5 Chalet's and the GMC cousin. Good luck finding one of those. I do remember seeing similar setups on trucks using large slide in campers that made accessing the spare impossible. You might have better luck looking in boneyards or shops that sell big slide in campers.

Re: Front bumper spare tire carrier
You could rig up a square reciever under the front bumper, and get/make a tire carrier for that.

Re: Front bumper spare tire carrier
Yup, that's the way they do it now - mount another receiver type hitch to the front of your truck and slide a $100 adapter into the receiver.
Amazon Or, for cheap: My current truck was a camper special, and it has two vertical holes in the front bumper - dead center - looks like somebody rigged up an upright and had it bolted to the bumper there - probably welded an old hub to some angled tubing at the other end to attach to the spare. |

Re: Front bumper spare tire carrier
I am considering something similar.
You could get a front hitch and use this: http://www.reese-hitches.com/product...arrier,DT-6715 Bolt on and done. |

Re: Front bumper spare tire carrier
Negative. Not recommended because of engine cooling concerns.
On the other hand.... ...if a person went the "square tube/receiver hitch" route then you could also use the front mounted hitch for "nosing" your trailer into tight parking spots. Double duty, so to speak. K

Re: Front bumper spare tire carrier
I hate to be 'that guy' but there is a reason they stopped doing this..... Why not mount it upright? I just made a bracket by running a flat bar between my stake pockets and putting a plate in the middle with ready rod welded on
