Headlight Upgrades? What Say Yee?
Now that I've got the LED's Tail/Cargo lights on order from Reumster what do you all recommend for upgrading my headlights. What should I consider when selecting an upgrade in headlights?
I await the answers from those with more knowledge then I. |

You can get sealed beams, sealed beam conversion kits, and HID.
With Sealed beams you can get Cool blue ($14 each) or Silverstar ($25 each). I have cool blue and they are nice, but if you like the HID or blue look, go with the Silverstars. Conversion kits change sealed beams into composite headlamps. You can use H1 & H4 bulb which are more powerful, cooler looking, easier to replace, and have a wider selection of perfomance bulbs. It is around $35-$60 for a kit HID is the ultimate headlight technology. It is mega bucks from $400-$900. The capsules last forever and they put out more light than anything else.

Where's a good place to get the conversion kit? I found one online for 29.95/each (bulbs not included) Here's the link.

Make sure you get the right type light. Midnight Moose http://www.midnightmoose.com/housings.htm has them. Many other places have them you just have to search. Try Truckin Magazine. They have tons of sites in there. You can find some cool "diamond" type (like the one you posted) if you search enough. I've even seen projector sealed beam conversions!!!

I just bought some super juiced up xenon bulbs from JC Whitney (dont beat me!) and those things put out enough light to make everyone think i've got high beams on most of the time. i'm currently running 90/130 watt bulbs in white. I might switch to blue just to piss others off. Let me tell you they light up a street....

I've had Cibie "Z beams" in my truck for 13 years. They use the replaceable H-4 type bulbs, but what makes these work is in the polished reflector and special lense. The low beams are VERY bright and paint the road white, but have a sharp "cut-off" so as not to annoy oncoming drivers. High beams are equally impressive, all with just 60/55 watt bulbs. Check out this page about 2/3 of the way down under "headlights." http://www.cars.u-net.com/cibie.htm

I searched the web for 20 minutes and couldn't find anywhere to order the Cibie z-beams. I got mine many years ago from a mail order place that advertised in AutoWeek magazine. The Hella lights are just as good and they're available at more places. I'd be interested in knowing more about those lights at Carolina Classics.
Bill, which ones did you get?

Hey Bill, I used to live in San Pedro and drive to Torrance for restaurants and shopping. That was back in......1968-1971. I'll bet things are a little different these days! I still remember coming close to buying a new 1969 Z28 at a Torrance Chevy dealer. The MSRP was a whopping $4002. I bought a 350 4-speed Nova instead for around $2800. Funny how I can still remember the price on that Camaro.
