Your not alone. I have to say, I never heard any of these terms before and I have owned Chevy trucks for 20+years. Oh well

Aerotruck talked about "Check the Champ" ( I think that's it anyway), I wonder if thats the slogan used for these?

Re: I want to show my ignorance

I don't know. I hear people say Apache and I always have to ask what year since it spans both designs. Sometimes it's these trucks and sometimes it's the earlier. I think most of the time it's the earlier ones. I guess the answer would be in advertising literature. Those other names is what they used in ads. It's like I feel I know this but just can't get it back. Or,I'm just wrong...lol! I can't believe in the hoppin' automotive era like the '60s they wouldn't have something pretty darn catchy.

I thought the first reply and 80 that followed would all know the answer. I'm sure in little time we'll have it. I gotta go.

Along the same lines, I've often wondered when the term Suburban came into use. Back in the 60's they were referred to as the Carryall model where I lived.

Re: I want to show my ignorance

I just went through my original sales brochures and manuals that came with my 1960 when my dad purchased it. Couldn't find any "sales" reference to a name, but I did find something I printed out a while back that refers to " 1960 - 1966 - First Generation C/K". I can't attest to whether that is an "official type nick name or just what the author of the 4 - paragraph blurb called them.

Thanks, that clears it up. I never knew for sure.

According to Wikipedia (not sure if this is the ultimate answer) the series were identified as follows:

1947-1955 Advance Design
1955-1959 Task Force
1960-2000 C/K Series, with the 1960-66 being the First Generation
1998-Present Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra

Sure seems like they would have had something more zippy than C/K series to go along with the dramatic 1960 styling.

Here are the first two pages of my original 1960 brochure. I tried to scan the whole brochure, but the rest disappeared into computer never-never land. I will re-scan all my originals sometime soon and post them in a thread.

Re: I want to show my ignorance

I thought this would have been answered by now.
I had heard the 67-72's referred to as either "beauty" or "glamor" design, something like that.

All those, but Advance Design and Task Force are after the fact terms made up by the general public or in one of those lame books, not GM's promotion. They promoted the '67 as "The New Breed".
GMC and Chevy used different campaigns,so it's Chevy we're looking for.

The Suburban was introduced in 1935. However, a few years ago Chevy's own TV commercial said it was introduced in 1936.

In 1960 the Suburban was called the 'Apache Suburban Carryall'. Sounds like it had an identity crisis

Re: I want to show my ignorance

Chevy just used advertising slogans for specific years. True '67 was new breed, but '68 was job tamer. '60-'61 was sturdi bilt, '62 Job master. '63 New Reliables. '64 Quality trucks always cost less. '65 Work Power and '66 built for bigger things in '66.

That is true. In '70 they were The Movers. Naturally,in introduction years they would use a catchy name. And,in some designs that stuck to identify that style from 1st till last year of production, like Advance Design. So,what were the '60s promoted as? I like Job Master. Chevy used "master" pretty extensively in years prior so this connects the trucks in a traditional way.
