collum shifter question

can the collum that is in my truck be made to work with a t-350/400 it was 4 speed hydramatic truck stock. still have the hydro linkages on it. just thought it would be cool to retain the stock shifter

I'm looking at putting a 700R4 tranny in my truck and my tranny guy says I can use the existing column shifter will work but I won't be able to manually shift it into 1. Only D, 3 and 2.
Please correct me if I'm wrong and anyone knows better.

I've never seen a column for the 4 speed hydromatic, but I don't see why it won't work. In my '66 Suburban I'm using the original powerglide column to shift a TH400.
