Fuse block locations?

I've got an almost-frame-off '80 C10 short step.

I'm at the point of the build where I should probably go ahead and get a wiring kit for it. The problem I'm having (in my head) is that with a smoothed firewall, I don't want to have a giant bundle of wires coming through into the engine bay.

What have you custom guys done in this situation? I'd like to not see any wires at all. Starting with one of those EZ Wiring universal kits, I was thinking about mounting the fuse block behind the seat on a panel, or inside a cubby or something, and then running all the wires through the floor and out towards the engine tucked inside the frame from there. I'm thinking that if I mount it up under the typical left side of the dash, I'll still have a problem of it coming through the firewall somewhere, and the bundle of wires would still be seen when I'm standing outside the truck with an open door.

Suggestions?

I have a ez2wire universal kit on mine and I have mine run through the floor next to were the parking brake cable is ran

I built a cover for mine, sell them here on the board too.

The wires will be covered in loom..with the headlight section running thru the drivers side fender then down along the bottom of the core support. The taillight wiring runs out the bottom of the cover and under the front cab lip. So all you see are a few short spots of loom, everything else is hidden.

Hmm. Looks good. If I could make the wiring completely invisible, I'd be tickled. We'll just have to see what happens when I have the fuse block and a drill in my hand at the same time...

I know what would happen if I was in that situation, and it wouldn't be pretty.

Off topic, but could you start a build thread on the '80? I got sucked into the Cougar build thread this afternoon, and I would really like to see more of the '80. You do really nice work!

Hey, thanks! I've not taken too many pics of the truck so far. It's been a big giant disaster, though. I've spent waaaaay too much money on it, too much time on it, and I have no reason for having it. I only bought it to rob the motor out of it for my 65 GMC junk truck, but then got to looking at how cheaply I could get doors, fenders, and such for it (I work at a body shop), and now a year later, I still only have a body on a frame. Albeit, its a, almost completely-new-sheet-metal body on a new-everything frame, but it's not really sellable as-is, and the outlook ls not so good, if you know what I mean...

I am in somewhat the same boat. I have been resisting the temptation to pull my truck apart at work and refresh it. My DD Mustang will probably get a fresh coat of black once convertible weather is over, though. I know as soon as I tear into it, something is going to happen.

Yeah, the "while-I'm-at-it's" start.

Well, while I've got the hood open, I might as well put a cam in it, and if I've got to pull the motor, I might as well paint the engine bay, and while I'm painting the engine bay, I might as well get new floor pans, and if I'm going to do that, I might as well go ahead and do all the bodywork and paint it, but if I'm going to paint it, I should do that really wicked custom paint scheme while I'm at it. It never ends. Lesson is, don't open your hood. Ever.
