Instrument cluster information

Have not seen a discussion of this topic , I have a 66 GMC in the dash cluster there are 4 round holes, the top 2 are for turn signals, the bottom two are for warning lights. The lenses are missing for these functions. I am guessing that the top two were clear for the turn signals. What color were the bottom ones and what are they for ? Any help would be appreciated. Kieth

Re: Instrument cluster information

Not sure if this is the case for GMC - but for Chevy's one of the unused lights is for a "Tandem Lock" indicator and one is an "Overspeed" indicator. These were only functional in bigger, commercial sized trucks. here's one of the several tandem lock threads: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=325247

For me, since my truck is a C10, I used a printed out "PARK BRAKE" on a thin film, replaced it where the Tandem Lock red lens was, hooked the indicator light to an extra brake switch and made myself a parking brake indicator. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=419932

Re: Instrument cluster information

IF I'am reading this right you are talking about the smaller lights that go around the speedo. If so the upper left is the generator indicator/color red, the upper right is low oil pressure indicator/color red, the lower left is brite lite indicator/color red and the lower right is the turn signal indicator/ color green[only one indicator for both directions]. I may be wrong on colors as I'am going by memory but I think that's the correct colors.

Here is a picture of mine. Turn signal is one for either direction. The lower right is GEN, and I belive the to top ones are oil pressure and temp. Only the turn signal is green all the others are red.

Re: Instrument cluster information

thanks for all the input here is what I found :

http://www.6066gmcguy.org/cluster.htm

Jollys 60 66 website it says 1. upper left Generator warning light---------red
2. upper right oil pressure warning-----------red
3. lower left hi beam------------------------blue?
4. lower right turn signal indicator------------green

I am guessing at the colors since all seem to be missing on every one I have seen I thing I will go to colored bulbs, paint the inside of the tube silver and see how it goes.

Am I missing the color deal and the function....??? The above link also showed info on a sun tach and a clock for the large diameter holes which have nothing in my cheapo plain jane dash.........Kieth

Re: Instrument cluster information

no like a lot of things specifically for the gmc'ers they dont make repros of those yet. We are lucky they got our park lamp lenses lol. What I would love to see if reproductions gmc custom chrome cab trim. i found a place that has several gmcs in a wrecking yard with them on but they are so badly damaged they cant be used without alot of dedicated effort.

Classic Parts has the body side chrome trim, I just got their catalogue and went through it this morning. They of course do not offer the upper cab trim, but one might be able to make that out of the long chrome side trim, I thought $189.00 was a pretty good deal.........

http://www.classicparts.com/1962-66-...tinfo/62-245G/

Only way I discovered it was by getting the catalogue it shows pictures which I understand a whole lot better.

Surfdaddy who redid your instrument cluster ? Kieth

the reason I ask is because we had a test instrument cluster that we were practicing on, we tried soda blasting it and screwed it up, so now we are back to wet sanding the original, painting, clearing , and adding the black color back to the bezels and the ring.......maybe $195.00 is not so bad for redoing this thing.......ha ha
