you can build a 454 out of a small block..

Re: the baddest sbc ever!!!

Yea I agree, the carb intake and all just don't look right on there... I found a couple pictures that were acceptable to me though, although, if given one like in the picture of the original poster, I definately wouldn't complain a bit!

just a quick search from boredom

Re: the baddest sbc ever!!!

Carbs are way cheaper and make just as much or more power on a n/a motor like that. When you start getting to this power level & move that much air, the injectors to feed it start getting expensive, the factory ECM's can't control them easily so you start getting into driver boxes and/or aftermarket injection systems, and the injectors are so big they can be a bear to control at idle & low rpms. A carb "tames" a motor like this down quite a bit.

Re: the baddest sbc ever!!!

the school of sam was the one that started this and if im not mistaken theirs is a 500ci ls2. They had an artical in camaro magazine on it and they bolt a 1in plate on top of the block. You can send them a motor and they will build it for you but its like $12k and I think if I was gonna do that or had the money i'd have to go with a 572bbc.
And theis ls motors actually like carbs they did a thing on spikes power block and they had one of the LS motor designers their and it even shocked him how much power it made. I think it was a 5.3 they did the swap on and i think it made 400+ at the flywheel.

Aftermarket heads and all of that for only 750hp? Heck, guys out here are making almost that with STOCK intake to pan LS1's with a single turbo.

Re: the baddest sbc ever!!!

School of Automotive Machinists
1998 Camaro Z28
June 2008

Power? We got your power. How about a 500 ci LS2 Rat busting out 923 hp and 906 lb-ft of torque that runs on pump gas? Loaded with a Power Glide transmission for drag purposes, this ’98 Z28 could actually make street sense with an overdrive. But this calling card for the School of Automotive Machinists (SAM) in Houston, Texas is an actual learning tool to showcase the talents of the school’s students—something they all take huge pride in.

With car owner Linda Massingill behind the wheel, a field trip to the drag strip is the main testing grounds for the students to watch their extensive schoolwork reach a top speed of 139 mph in the quarter-mile¬—fast enough to keep the class’ undivided attention, even if it’s only for 9.50 seconds.

Well, this stellar fourth-gen got our attention; enough to make it as a Ten Best of 2008.
