4.3?
greetings! i went to a county auction today to buy a tractor but at the last minute they decided to keep it. the last thing they sold was a '93 chevy truck. i hadn't seen it & it bid up to $700 & stopped. i thought if it was worth $700 it must be worth $800 so i bid & won it! i didn't even know if it ran or what color it was. wound up being a wt, one of those lwb work trucks with the 4.3 in it. runs great! slick body, cold air. any way i was thinking about using this truck as a drive line donor for my '66. anybody used a 4.3 in a '66? it would have o/d, serpentine setup, tbi. remember, this truck will one day wind up as my grand kids high school truck. wadda yall think?

Re: 4.3?
I think it should work, why not just give the GK the 93? and keep the 66 for yourself?

Re: 4.3?
lol agreed.
The 4.3 is a decent motor but rather uninspiring in terms of performance and mileage. I would either go up the v8 game, or a nice clean I6 under the hood.

Re: 4.3?
i have an m715 jeep 5/4 and right before i made that last trip to afghanistan i put a rebuilt 250 in it. i found it on a site called inliners, and the post was over a year old. when i mailed him he still had it & it was a make offer sale. he said it was on his engine stand & wanted it off so he could put his 235 on it. i bought it for $100! all rebuilt, complete with a new clutch, clutch housing, carb, a set of after market motor mounts & some more stuff. had i had this 4.3 then, IT would be in the 715 & the 250 for the '66. nothing ever happens in the right sequence for me.

Re: 4.3?
Ill bet you can find a 250 or 292 rather reasonable, either here or on CL or Stovebolt.

Re: 4.3?
I don't know where these guys are getting all this about using an inline 6 but he asked if anyone had used a 4.3 in a 66. I had a 92 GMC SAFARI van that was fully loaded with a custom conversion ,TV, nintendo, dual Ac's,electric rear seat that made into a bed, etc, and it would get 18-20 mpg with plenty of power. If it were me I'd do it there good motors and my grandfather had a 66 Chevy Pu with a 292 , 10 mpg was as good as it ever got. It would pull a freight train thought.

Re: 4.3?
I say go for it. If your happy with the 93 you will like it in the 66. Ive had several 4.3's and loved them. It is a 350 with 2 cylinders cut off so a V8 swap will be easy If you wanted to do that eventualy.

Re: 4.3?
thanks. i had a 4.3 in an '88 just like this truck & it was a great little truck. i burnt the trans up one night towing a heavy load, i flipped the trans up into o/d just to see if it would pull it & away we went. i got to talking to my wife & forgot about the trans & boiled the oil in it. don't tow in o/d!
