77 c10 stepside first build!!!
hey my names chris im new to this forum and also to hotrodding in general. my project is 77 c10 stepside. i want to build a smallblock thats streetable yet has some balls also. im 21 so im on a budget im sure like alot of members in this forum. this is what i have started so far. i have a bare block 350 that im going to freshen up and bore .030 over. i have a bottom end picked out, steel crank, hypereutectic alum. pistons and 5140 steel rods, internally balanced with plasmamoly rings. pretty solid basis for a project in the neighborhood of 400hp. im just undecided on the top end, i was going to vortec cast heads with matching intake with comp mag 270 cam. however i wanted to consult to someone with a bit more experience to get started in the right direction. any help would be greatly appreciated specifically with cam and heads for 375 to 400 hp in the end. thanks alot!!!

Re: 77 c10 stepside first build!!!
I just built a 383 stroker with 410 scat crank, keith black flat top pistons .030 over, com cam 280h, vortec heads and edelb air gap performer intake. 670 holley advenger carb with a 400 trans
Its turns the tires with ease. I would put a edelb performer intake and a holley carb. Vortec heads are good and realtively cheap compared to some sets. just my two cents.

Re: 77 c10 stepside first build!!!
thanks alot. yeah from what ive read in the forums and the hours of research ive done i think i have found my setup. im going to run comps 268 extreme energy which supposedly you can run with stock converter but i think im gonna up it to a 2200 stall at least and pair it with a set of vortec heads. however the stock springs can handle a max lift of .475 so any ideas on what springs i should go with? also with a stall of that size do i need to run an aux trans cooler? i know stalls make trannys run hot and im torn between just rebuilding my 350k mile t350 or upping to a turbo 400.

Re: 77 c10 stepside first build!!!
all good advice. i was going to originally build a 383 but i think for starters a 355 will be more up my alley. im gonna use the 268xe, performer vortec intake, 600cfm edelbrock, and the bottom end which will give me 9.8 with the heads.
