73-87 Front Suspension Swap Question

OK Guys Ive got another question: Im swapping in the front crossmember and suspension from a 84 C10 into my 65 C10. I dont want power steering and I dont want power brakes.

-Can I use the 65 steering box with the 84 pitman arm?
-Any suggestions on a manual, dual master cylinder?

Re: 73-87 Front Suspension Swap Question

For the ms/cyl, you can get a stock one for early 70's(?) trucks and get a prop valve anywhere from junk yard or new aftermarket. I bought a kit from POL and just got this one going; there are cheaper ways to do this, however.

Re: 73-87 Front Suspension Swap Question

Not completely sure on the steering box( someone will let you know for sure) as far as the master, i'm running a '72 corvette manual disc brake one, just bend up some new lines to split the system and your good to go. I din't even need to adjust the pushrod.

I think the one nacho is using is what I have pictured. I went this route as I was in a hurry to get the parts.

Re: 73-87 Front Suspension Swap Question

I believe you can use the original '65 pitman arm on the '84 draglink.

Re: 73-87 Front Suspension Swap Question

You could also get the adapter sleeves with 2 thread sizes to go from the newer tie rods to the older centerlink. Saves messing with all of the 'middle'.

Re: 73-87 Front Suspension Swap Question

I'm thinking you'll have to use the idler arm from the '84 since you're using the '84 draglink. To use the later model idler arm you will have to locate it in the correct position, and drill 2 new holes. I don't have much experience in mixing and matching steering linkages, I always switch over to the later model steering linkages. It just makes things simpler and easier to remember what you need when it comes time to replace parts.
