Re: where to plug gas tank wire??

do you have a factory assembly manual? if not i would suggest it. im not being an a$$ really, it comes in handy alot for me. they have wiring diagrams and are usually under $20.

if i had the diagram you needed, i would post it for though.

iirc, the wire from the guage goes to the sending unit, the other wire on the sending unit is ground

Hmmm, so it doesnt run through the fuse box? I have a wiring diagram, its not really helping me out though. I thought my wire from the sending unit goes to the fuse box?? could be wrong though.

from the guages fuse to the guage for power, then to the sending unit, the to ground. the difference in the resistance in the sending unit makes the guage move. I can only find this on the net.

Re: where to plug gas tank wire??

Hey no problem, I cant get to my assembly manual, I am at work.

the "hot" wire should already be at your guages, assuming you have stock harness. the wire that goes to your sending unit, I think is brown, but I could be wrong there.

Look at the 2nd page, hot wire is the pink to the guage, tan one goes to sender.

The diags will help you brother.

Re: where to plug gas tank wire??

Ok, so i dont need to run the tan wire through the fuse box, pink at guage, and tan can go directly to the sending unit from the gauge, thank for attaching those

Assuming you have stock gauges still in tact, The tan wire is what you want to connect to your sender. The other wire on your sender is ground. (On your frame). The pink wire if stock should be intact.

Seal your splices to prevent corrosion or you will be chasing a problem again in 6 months.

I use brush on electrical tape. Works good on boats so should hold up on your sender splice.

Re: where to plug gas tank wire??

the sending unit doesnt work with power, its a ground. you already have power to your guages. the guage has a power side and a neg. side . since you have power on the guage the ground side goes to the sending unit. that completes the cycle at the guage and converts to ohms.

Re: where to plug gas tank wire??

Thanks for the pics stsalvage thats what i was looking for! My words are mostly worn off. Still havent got it working. Its jumping around, seems like it works then I move some wires and it stops. I think there is a short somewhere because after that I got a "zap" from the dash board. About to just buy a completely new harness/fuse box. The wiring in my truck is a disaster. Brittle as well, the last thing I need it for it to burn to the ground!!lol

Re: where to plug gas tank wire??

Sounds like you have a new direction to pursue. May I suggest from someone who has done too many "cheap" harnesses, go with AAW, Classic Update series if your planning on adding anything like AC or something. they also have one that is just like factory.

Pay for the best one and only do it once. IMO.
