Front clip from late model

I was wondering how late a model of truck you can swap in the front clip from onto a 66 C20? I saw another thread talking about using a 73 clip to get the discsand the 5 lug setup as well as the control arms for using C10 lowering gear, and how it was a bolt in affair so was wondering how late a generation clip you can just bolt under one of the older trucks 80's 90's 2000's are they all basiclally the same set up? Also any hints on the rear axle swap would be appreciated as well did a search but didn't find this question answered. Thanks in advance.

Re: Front clip from late model

Here is a good thread on the front disc brake conversion.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=367260

There is a good list of informative threads in the FAQ at the top of this section. Basically everything that works for the C10's will work on a C20. You can use a front suspensionm steering and brakes from a '71-'87 C20 or single wheel C30.

The only direct bolt in rear end that would be better than the HO52 you likely have would be a Dana 60 from a '67-'72 C20, but those aren't easy to find. Any other 8 lug rear end is going to require cutting, welding and some fabrication to convert. If that is something you are able to do, then I would look for either a 14 bolt from a '73-'87 C20 or single wheel C30, or a Dana 60 from a F250. The full floating version of either would be the better choice. If you decide to go with a 14 bolt, I have some trailing arm brackets for that conversion. I can also help you with the power steering and power brake conversion.

Re: Front clip from late model

The same would apply that I mentioned above, you would just need parts from a C10 instead of a C20.....it all interchanges. The one exception to that is the lower control arm shafts on your '66 C20 are different than later model C10's. So to convert to a C10, you will have to either switch the entire crossmember, or do some fabricating to mount up the C10 lower control arms.

Re: Front clip from late model

Right I was wondering because I saw another post on here where a guy picked up the whole front clip from a 73 for 100.00 off Craigs or something and how it bolts right up to the crossmember of a C20 thus turning it into a c10 only requiring plumbing for the disc brakes and making the whole conversion alot easier. He had a pic of the front clip he picked up and I was wondering how late a model has the same style mounting crossmember to bolt right up so I can cruise Craigs looking for a C10 being parted. Thanks again.
