side mount gas tank 60-66 chevy truck

Has anyone done a side mount gas tank install. How many gallons do they hold. I have seen some retrofit in old trucks. I would like to move my tank out of the cab but look at options other than at the rear of the truck between the frame rails. I had thoughts about mounting a spare tire at the rear underside of the truck.

Thanks Jeff.

The way the cab is done and as little room as there is under the bed floor I would expect the tanks would be small. i had trouble getting the air tank under mine.

I looked into this alot and couldn't find anything that would work. Maybe build a custom tank? If you decide to do something different the gas tank from a 68-72 A body mounted in the rear works great.

My truck has a small side tank on the drivers side that fills from the wheel well. I am using that same location to put my fuel cell and will do a proper filler. The one in there now isn't very big and has no sender. I've never used it since it seems to be solid rust.

I did some calculations and I believe that if I build a tank that goes under the cab and bed it would hold up to 20 gallons.

At rear of truck, between frame rails is safest place for it.... why do you want to sit on top of 20 gal of BOOM, and try not to get into a wreck? All that for a spare tire? Thats what AAA is for...
