700r4 vs. 4l60e

What type of difference in gas mileage would I see if I used a 700r4 instead of a 4l60e on a 5.3 swap ? The reason I am considering going with the 700 is because I just had the trans rebuilt.

Re: 700r4 vs. 4l60e

Biggest difference you would see is probably from the way the trannies are geared. I imagine you'd see a slight drop using the 700, plus you'd be going to imo an inferior trans.

Re: 700r4 vs. 4l60e

It is for my burb. Want to get away from the carb 350 and pick up some mpg's. Just wondering if the price of a rebuilt 4l60e was worth it. My 700 is freshly rebuilt so if it won't hurt performance or mpg's to bad I will use it till it craps out.

its a 700r4, you shouldn't have to wait too long.

Re: 700r4 vs. 4l60e

Pretty much the same transmissions from what (little) I know! I believe they are geared the same as well. I think GM just renamed the 700r4 to the 4l60 and 4l60E which has to be controlled electronically. I don't think you would see any difference and would be better off with the 4l60E because it's controlled by the 5.3 ECU.

Nailed it! They are they use the same internals. The only difference is in the valve body. One is hyrdaulic (700r4) and one is electronically (4l60e) controlled.

Re: 700r4 vs. 4l60e

are you sure they didn't change year to year? My 700r4 had WAY different gearing than the 4l60e I had after it (not in my 66)

Re: 700r4 vs. 4l60e

The 700R4, 4L60, & 4L60E have the same ratios.
1st 3.06
2nd 1.63
3rd 1.00
4th .70
There would be no difference in mileage.
