t-5 f@rd in a tf truck
Anybody running a t-5 out of a mustang in their truck? Is it more hassle than its worth? Im running a stock 327 in my 59. Just not sure how much trq a t-5 can take, although i dont get on it very often. Just wondering if converting a f@rd t-5 to work with a sbc is more hassle than its worth. If anybody is running one let me know. Sam

i'd say with a stock 327, you're probably pushing your luck. If your driving habits are rather calm, it would probably hold up. Is the mustang T5 a world class (or are all mustang t5's wc's??) if so, then I'd be a little more relaxed about doing it. I'm assuming you have or have access to an inexpensive F$%d T5, otherwise you'd be looking for an F-body T5 (to add an S10 tail to for shifter placement issues) or just an S-10 T5 to start with (which would not be a wc, by the way)? (that's why a camaro wc T5 with an S-10 tail housing/shaft is a popular option.

Re: t-5 f@rd in a tf truck
Jocko, thats exactly it. A friend has a wc t-5 he dosen't want ( mustang ) so i can get it for free. Im sure i would have to change the bellhousing, the tailshaft, and upgrade the clutch. I'm thinking its not worth the hassle. I want a 5 sp. But i think this is probably the wrong way to go. The stuff i have got for free have wound up costing me the most money sometimes.

Re: t-5 f@rd in a tf truck
The Mustang trans. will not fit with out a lot of adapters & modification, but it has good value as the Mustang guys are always tearing them up. An S-10 fits without much hastle & a Camero fits but the shifter is way back. I have put S-10 T-5s behind 350 chevys in 2 trucks & have never torn one up. I dont do burn outs or speed shift though, but i'm not afraid to get on it. I would sell the Mustang & buy a S-10. The S-10 ones are dirt cheasp.
