1965 C10 - 350 sbc. I hear this ticking sound...
.... and I get home from work and my spark plug is:
A) unplugged from the wire B) loose and rattling around in the block C) broken (as in spinning around freely in the housing) !!!@$@!$#@%$@??? So... of course while checking the other spark plugs, the spark plug wire on one of them broke apart and I spent like 30 mins putting it back together with the clip and trying to get it to 'snap' onto the dadgum plug... it was in a super weird position. *sigh* two of the other plugs were hand tight or loose as well. WEIRD. so, I checked each one and snugged 'em all back up and replaced the broken one. I have no explanation for this one. old trucks are fun! right? -W |

Re: 1965 C10 - 350 sbc. I hear this ticking sound...
a hot rod guy (chopnchaneled from the HAMB) gave me this tip about the spark plug boots on the wires:
What causes that is when you pushed the boots on the plugs there was an air pocket formed in it and after a period of time pressure builds up and blows the wire off. What we did to keep it from happening on the race engines was take a needle and syringe after pushing the boot on and slide the needle in the boot beside the plus and draw a little vacuum and it solved our problem. ---- -W |

Re: 1965 C10 - 350 sbc. I hear this ticking sound...
I had a 67 chevelle in high school that burned oil real bad , so bad that it fouled one plug all the time .. so I left it loose and carried spares with me ,and if it started skipping I just pulled into a parking lot and uscrewed it with my fingers and a rag (gingerly so as not to get burned ) and would screw a new one in finger tight and off I would go.... Sometimes though the plug would loosen on its own and fall out while i was driving ... lol
