Experienced technical difficulty today
So I have been messing around the past week or so trying to fix all the little things on my '86 swb 4x4 as my '87 dd is going away at the end of the month. You can see some of the fun here. Let's just say this truck has some "electrical issues".
Anyway, I was rather proud of myself that I got it all figured out and the ESC bypassed for it to run. I live out in the sticks and was concerned I wouldn't make to the nearest gas station. I did make it and filled the right side tank up. Much to my surprise, the gas gauge works. Cool, I can cross that off the list. So, I change positions at the pump and start to fill up the driver's side. I knew it was to good to be true. So I hurry and get off the island and onto a dirt lot next to the gas station. I was watching 6 gallons of gas pour out. The owner of the station was nice enough to give me a bucket to collect it in, but the gas that was draining into the bucket was filthy. Luckily, I had the tools with me, so I pulled the plastic protector and what a surprise! This is what was on the ground after everything was done and I moved the truck. I think I need a new tank. What do you guys think? But other than that little adventure, it has been running smooth for a couple of days. I just need to work over the electrical to fix all the gremlins, but otherwise it's a decent truck. It's the first swb I've ever owned and I have to say I kinda like it! |

Re: Experienced technical difficulty today
Damn ya that's gotta be about the worst one I have ever seen ever! I had one in my old '86 that would piss a little bit out when it had gas in that tank but nothing near that bad. Ya I vote for throwing it away haha!

Re: Experienced technical difficulty today
Been then done that; I just changed my driver side gas tank yesterday. I pulled the tank from under the truck, and it took me around 4 hours to change it out. I would recommend pulling the bed for a tank change.
good luck!
