SBC waterpump measurement

guys,
does anyone know the measurement difference between a short and long water pump ?
im running a 1980 350 out of a truck with long water pump, alternator on passengers side, and got some late 60's SBC alternator brackets to switch the alternator to the drivers side, but those motors use a short water pump. i need to make a spacer to make up the difference and want it to be exact.
thanks

Re: SBC waterpump measurement

I wasn't bright enough to figure out ahead of time, I just accumulated different steering and alternator bracket set ups and used/modified them to work. I originally had the alt on the passenger side using factory LWP set up, but moved it over to the driver side. Mine is complicated because I am using the stock front motor mounts that on 58+ auto and 60+ trucks were used for mounting accessories. But I enjoy the figuring out and fabrication so its ok for me. Also your exhaust manifolds will affect what you are doing, I used stock ram horn type with the cast bracket for driver generator.

thanks man, just checked out and subscribed to your build thread. i like the way you use cardboard to make templates. im a welder full time and also love fabbing stuff up.
i got me some alternator brackets form a late 60's 327, for drivers side, but because of the long water pump, i am having to modify the brackets. i think i have it half figured out, and will know more on sunday when i mess with it more. i will post pics when i do get it up and going.
thanks again....
